Category:  Full time (40+ hours per week as needed)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay: $80,000 - $90,000 DOE 

Schedule: Monday – Friday (weekends and evening as needed)   


GENERAL PURPOSE  

The Development Manager is a member of the leadership team whose focus is donor development, fundraising, and donations.   In partnership with the Executive Director and other members of the leadership team, this position is responsible for the creation and execution of strategies to generate and steward philanthropic support for the Organization. This position will need to work collaboratively to ensure completion of specific goals and duties.  

The Development Manager is responsible for generating revenue streams from private and public sources. Must demonstrate a high level of ethical standards in fundraising.

South Valley Services is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide options to anyone who has experienced domestic and sexual violence. SVS provides free and confidential services including emergency shelter, safe housing, trauma-informed counseling, advocacy, and tools for life.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Collaborate with members of the leadership team on the development, oversight, and execution of SVS’s annual fundraising plan.
  • Work with the Executive Director to develop department goals and achieve revenue targets.
  • Manage the Development Department budget and work with the Executive Director to draft annual revenue projections for the organizational budget.
  • Create and execute a strategy for increasing and sustaining donors.
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with corporate and individual donors, and foundations.
  • Create and maintain an annual giving and major gifts program in collaboration with the Development Committee.
  • Plan, supervise, and execute fundraising events. Cultivate the new relationships formed at these events including post event follow-up. 
  • Develop and grow community partnerships, and network regularly with businesses and organizations in our coverage areas including Tooele and Salt Lake Counties.
  • Speak/present to community groups/media as needed to increase awareness of our organization, programs, and events.
  • Manage and maintain donor database; track all donations in database; and ensure donor data integrity.
  • Inform fundraising communication/marketing and all fundraising/donation website content in partnership with the Communications Manager.
  • Lead, manage, and inspire the Development Department staff.
  • Collaborate on grant writing, guide grant-writing staff, help develop a strategy for grant revenue, and ensure departments are informed of grant objectives for execution and reporting requirements.   


OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES                 

 

  • Work in close cooperation with the Communications Manager (who is responsible for executing marketing duties) to guide the fundraising content/messaging in newsletters and on social media.
  • Responsible to maintain, analyze, and present development and fundraising data for the annual report.
  • Work with the Communications Committee and other committees to maximize effectiveness.
  • Work with the Development Committee, Committee, Chairs, and subcommittees.
  • Prepare and submit reports to the Board of Trustees as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  
  • Demonstrate support for strategic imperative of being part of a 360-degree, trauma-informed organization.
  • Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of all donor, employee, and client information.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with donors, staff, volunteers, clients, and vendors.


QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS       

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business, public relations, social services administration, or related field.
  • A proven record of success as a fund-raising professional.
  • Minimum one year of development/fundraising-related professional experience.
  • Minimum one year of supervisory experience.
  • Experience planning and executing fundraising campaigns and events.
  • Experience researching and writing grants.
  • Knowledge of local corporate and foundation community.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written in English) and presentation skills.
  • Ability to engage audience and generate enthusiasm when presenting.
  • Excellent organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple complex projects and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and donor management software.
  • Pass and maintain a cleared Direct Access Clearance System background check.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of tax-planning principles and techniques that favor charitable giving.
  • Experience creating and administering planned giving programs.
  • Experience working in a non-profit human services environment, domestic violence services a plus.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The working environment is varied. Office work in the Shelter and on Teams regularly. Regular travel to locations outside the Shelter office is required to give presentations, network, meet with donors, give interviews, and attend events. Attendance at events on evenings and weekends is required.    

Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds is required to set up displays, presentations, and assist at events.      

 

EQUIPMENT USED

  • Operation/use of basic office equipment such as telephone, computer, fax, and copy machine.
