Early Childhood Consultant for Northern Utah

Summary
The Children’s Center Utah has an opening for a full time Early Childhood Consultant who will be working primarily in the Northern Region of Utah. This position works with early care and education programs throughout Northern Utah to build early childhood educators' capacity and skills needed to facilitate the healthy social and emotional development of children in their care. The Consultant provides onsite consultation, feedback and reflection, modeling, and professional development.
 
Responsibilities
  • Implement program-focused consultation that supports early childhood program by assisting program’s overall social and emotional climate through staff wellness and professional development, nurturing and responsive relationships, and implementing supportive environments.
  • Provide child-centered consultation, on-site observations and support for children that is focused on strengthening the caregiver-child relationship through responsive and attuned practices, identifying nurturing ways caregivers can respond to behavior they find challenging.
  • Instructor that teaches and supports early childhood professionals on social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health topics related to their work with young children.
  • Keeps accurate records of activities, records data in approved formats and generates reports as needed.
  • Participates fully in department and agency meetings, professional development activities and community outreach as assigned.

The Successful Candidate
  • You have a growth mind-set and are committed to supporting the life-long learning process of adults. You envision doing the hard and hopeful work of improving the lives of children in childcare and the adults who care for them. You want to learn more about the growing field of early childhood mental health and consultation to help identify effective strategies and models that can be replicated in our state.
  • You are a skilled communicator. You have excellent written and oral communication skills and strong people skills. You are comfortable interacting with people of all ages, ethnicities, races, abilities, and economic and educational levels.
  • You have a passion that motivates your work and the work of those around you. You are (or are in the process of becoming) an advocate for young children and those who care for them. Participating in systems and collective impact work is a professional opportunity that you welcome.
 
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in child or human development, early childhood education, psychology (or a closely related field).
  • Significant experience with young children in group care and education is required.
  • Knowledge of social, emotional, and behavioral development of young children
  • Desire to become more specialized in early childhood consultation and obtain your IECMHC endorsement.
  • Working knowledge of the Pyramid Model framework and of trauma informed care practices in early childhood settings.
  • Ability to become proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Must have own reliable transportation to get to and from childcare programs
  • Some nights and weekends for training and conferences
  • Bi-lingual Spanish/English speakers preferred  
 
Compensation
$43,000 annual salary
