Job Overview 

Comunidades Unidas (CU) is an immigrant rights non-profit organization based in West Valley City, Utah, with a mission to provide direct social services and community organizing opportunities to the Latinx and immigrant communities of Utah, allowing them to prosper and use their power in favor of their collective interests. We are seeking a passionate, social-justice-driven individual to serve as our next Executive Director (ED). 

The ED will set the vision for CU in collaboration with the board of directors, team members, and community leaders. Leading a team of dedicated social justice advocates, the ED will work towards creating a just and equitable Utah where immigrants are actively engaged in the economic, social, and political issues affecting their lives. 


Key Responsibilities 

Leadership & Management 

o Vision & Strategy: Collaborate with the board and staff to develop and implement CU’s strategic plan, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and community needs. 

o Team Leadership: Inspire, motivate, and cultivate a healthy organizational culture that encourages teamwork and fosters professional growth among staff and volunteers. 

o Program Oversight: Provide direction for all CU programs and initiatives, ensuring alignment with CU’s mission and effectiveness in meeting community needs and organizational objectives. 

o Compliance: Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, particularly those pertaining to personnel, grants, and fiscal management. 


Development, Marketing & Communication 

o Fundraising: Diversify and expand CU’s funding streams through grant writing, individual donations, membership programs, and fundraising events. 

o Public Relations: Strengthen CU’s public image by consistently presenting its mission, programs, and services in a positive and impactful way to all stakeholders. 


Administration & Supervision 

o Fiscal Management: Oversee CU’s finances, ensuring sound fiscal practices and budgetary discipline in alignment with the board’s direction. 

o Operational Oversight: Manage daily operations, including human resources, financial planning, and administrative processes, to ensure organizational efficiency and effectiveness. 


Qualifications 

o Commitment to Social Justice: Demonstrated passion and commitment to social, racial, economic, and gender justice. 

o Leadership Experience: Minimum of two years in a leadership role within a non-profit organization or community group. 

o Cultural Competence: Prior experience working with the Latinx community, with an understanding of the barriers, needs, and disparities faced by immigrant communities, especially within Utah. 

o Fundraising Expertise: Proven ability to raise funds through various channels, including grants, donations, and events. 

o Bilingual Communication: Proficiency in both English and Spanish, with strong verbal and written communication skills. 

o Community Engagement: Experience in community organizing and leadership, with a focus on social change and movement building.


Additional Information 

o Compensation: $70,000 - $80,000 annually, based on experience. Benefits include subsidized medical and dental insurance, paid time off, paid holidays, and a retirement plan (simple IRA) 

o Work Hours: Full-time (40+ hrs/wk) 

o Priority Application Deadline: October 26, 2024 

o Interview Timeline: First round of interviews from November 2 - November 6, 2024. 

o Start Date: Ideal start date is the end of November or the beginning of December 2024.
