POSITION SUMMARY
The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for providing strategic leadership, operational oversight, and external representation for HomeAid Utah (HAU) in alignment with its mission to build new lives for those at risk of or experiencing homelessness through housing, community engagement and education. The ED works in close collaboration with the Board of Directors, builder partners, service providers, and community stakeholders to ensure the organization’s sustainability, growth, and impact.
HAU is an affiliate of HomeAid America (www.homeaid.org), a national building industry non-profit based in Newport Beach CA and with affiliates in 19 markets across the country.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Leadership & Strategic Vision
- Provide clear leadership and vision for the organization, ensuring alignment with HomeAid Utah’s mission and long-term goals.
- Develop and implement a strategic plan, in partnership with the Board, that outlines measurable objectives for fundraising, program delivery, and community impact.
- Actively engage with the building and development industry to strengthen relationships and identify partnership opportunities.
2. Program & Project Management
- Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of shelter projects in collaboration with builder captains, shelter providers, and the Project Committee.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to a high standard of quality.
- Develop and maintain relationships with both new and existing shelter partners, expanding HomeAid’s reach and impact.
- Will utilize Salesforce to track donors and construction as a consistent best practice.
- ED will communicate and coordinate with the staff of HomeAid America (HAA) to assure that HAU’s activities and outcomes are in keeping with the organization’s national Mission, model, culture and standards, as dictated in the Affiliate Agreement between HAU and HAA.
3. Fund Development & Donor Relations
- Create and execute comprehensive fund development strategies, including major gifts, corporate sponsorships, grants, and fundraising events.
- Build and maintain relationships with philanthropic groups, corporate partners, family foundations, and individual donors to secure sustainable funding streams.
- Oversee and evaluate fundraising activities to ensure revenue goals are met or exceeded.
4. Financial Oversight & Compliance
- Prepare and manage the annual budget in partnership with the Treasurer and accountants.
- Ensure all financial practices are transparent, compliant, and fiscally responsible.
- Monitor expenditures and manage resources effectively to maximize impact.
5. Board & Volunteer Engagement
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Board of Directors and the organization’s staff and volunteers.
- Provide timely updates on projects, fundraising progress, and organizational needs.
- Recruit, inspire, and retain a diverse and engaged Board of Directors and volunteer base.
6. Marketing, Public Relations, & Advocacy
- Serve as the public face of HomeAid Utah, representing the organization in media appearances, community events, and industry gatherings.
- Communicate HomeAid’s mission and value proposition effectively to various audiences, tailoring messages for donors, partners, and the public.
- Advocate for policies and initiatives that support housing and homelessness solutions in Utah.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 7 years in a proven leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit, housing, or construction-related field.
- Must live in the Metro Salt Lake City area.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, donor cultivation, and revenue growth.
