GENERAL OVERVIEW OF ROLE

A USARA Peer Recovery Coach (PRC) is a non-clinical, Certified Peer Support Specialist who uses their lived experience in recovery to support individuals with Substance Use Disorder (SUD). Working under the supervision of the Rural Programs Director and alongside other PRCs, they provide recovery support across all stages of recovery. In rural areas, PRCs offer mobile coaching in community settings such as coffee shops, partner locations along with engaging individuals at the Recovery Community Center. They also build community partnerships and advocate with local law enforcement, mental health providers, and medical professionals to increase referrals and reduce stigma around SUD.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

- Establish regular weekly one-on-one contact with participants who are seeking support in their recovery, either in person or by phone 

- Utilize evidence-based recovery practices, such as the Recovery Management Plan with participants

- Link participants & family members to appropriate community resources

- Accurately log data in a timely and accurate manner, and ensure compliance with reporting requirements

- Adhere to Utah Peer Support Specialist Code of Ethics & CPSS Core Competencies

- Advocate ALL Pathways to Recovery and provide awareness and education on Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), harm reduction, naloxone training, syringe exchange, disease prevention, etc.

- Provide awareness & education on critical SUD topics, such as; harm reduction, naloxone training, syringe exchange, & disease prevention

- Facilitate the following at the local Recovery Community Center (RCC) and in the community: Mutual Aid Recovery groups, Recovery community activities & events (weekly, quarterly, annually)

- Assist participants in identifying barriers & potential supports to critical/essential needs. This includes but is not limited to: financial, housing, transportation, hygiene necessities, employment

- Any other job duties as assigned


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

- Staffing the front desk

- Answering incoming phone calls

- Tidiness of workplace areas (taking trash out, dishes, etc.)

Qualifications

- Minimum 2 years active recovery, & comfortable sharing recovery experience

- Certification as a Certified Peer Support Specialist/ Peer Recovery Coach from an approved curriculum (will train if needed)

- Familiar with Motivational Interviewing techniques (will train if needed)

- Valid Driver’s license and private licensed & registered vehicle

- Ability to keep and maintain a flexible work schedule 

- Must be a self-starter and internally motivated to achieve team and/or individual objectives 

- Strong Internet & Computer Navigation skills with a moderate proficiency in MS Office Suite 

- Experience utilizing cloud-based HIPAA compliant database software (preferred) 

- Familiarity with & ability to use various social media platforms 

- Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal & written communication

- Strong values based in work ethic and recovery-oriented principles

- Event planning experience in social/community events & service projects (preferred) 

- Current knowledge of, and ability to navigate community resources 

- Understanding of, and ability to maintain appropriate boundaries

- Ability to work in a professional manner within a healthcare setting
