Sexual Assault Services Outreach Advocate
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Sexual Assault Services Outreach Advocate is part of a dedicated team that ensures that survivors of sexual assault in Summit and Wasatch County are offered accessible, safe, trauma-informed services. This role will specifically develop community understanding of the prevalence of sexual violence, ways to respond, and services available, by providing regular community education sessions. Attending community outreach events and working with the Sexual Assault team to host awareness activities is a key part of the role and so regular evening and weekend work should be expected.
Additionally, the Outreach Advocate is an integral part of the Hospital Crisis Response Team, sharing responsibility for providing 24/7 on-call coverage & providing follow up supports to survivors. This position is expected to provide crisis intervention and advocacy support for survivors who come to Peace House for assistance and those who interact with the Outreach Advocate at public events.
This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position averaging 40 hours per week. The Sexual Assault Services Outreach Advocate will report directly to the Director of Support Services, will serve as an active member within the program and Peace House, and will perform the following duties and others as assigned. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Outreach Specific duties
- Create/enhance a range of community education and awareness materials for a variety of audiences.
- Remain up to date on all matters relating to sexual assault, as well as on local rates of sexual violence, trends, needs, resources, referral pathways etc.
Regularly schedule, organize, and deliver community education presentations/outreach events across Summit & Wasatch Counties.
- Collaborate closely with our Digital Outreach Advocate to create social media content and campaigns.
Collaborate with the Sexual Assault Services Team and Prevention/Education team to ensure Peace House is represented at a variety of community events throughout the year to raise awareness.
Be prepared to find innovative ways to engage partners and the public on the topic of sexual violence.
Able to confidently represent Peace House, speak at public events and to the media when authorized.
Sexual Assault Advocate
- Answers crisis calls and serves on the rotating on-call schedule to respond to sexual assault forensic exams at the Park City hospital on a 24/7 roster.
- Serves as back-up/mentor to volunteer Hospital Response Team shifts during the day and overnight on a rotating roster.
- Assists with recruitment and training of volunteer advocates.
- Provide crisis intervention services for survivors attending the Peace House campus and those seeking assistance at public events.
- Provide mobile advocacy across Summit & Wasatch Counties to better connect underserved populations in rural areas with support services.
- Responsible for referring individuals to appropriate community resources for additional assistance and counseling.
- Maintains and reviews required documentation and data collection.
- Follows state and federal laws on victim confidentiality.

- Establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with agency staff and any other organizations, individuals and community partners important to the success of Peace House’s work.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Able to pass a background check as required for state licensing.
- Sensitive to diversity and the unique challenges of dealing with vulnerable populations.
- Experienced in DV/SA advocacy field.
- Creative, enthusiastic, and flexible—open to change and learning.
- Solution-focused and strengths based.
- Experience in community outreach role and building collaborative partnerships.
- Comfortable with public speaking and delivering presentations.
- Team player with an ability to work with an interdisciplinary team.
- Strong administrative skills, ability to delegate and make decisions.
- Computer literate.
- Completes assignments in timely manner.
- Ability to stay task-focused and work independently, in addition to working collaboratively within a supportive team.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification or ability to get training within the first month of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bilingual – Spanish and English speaking.
- Experience working in social services.
- Ideally already trained as a Sexual Assault Counsellor in accordance with Utah’s Confidential Communications Act and experienced at responding to forensic exams.
- Training and/or experience in case management.
- Ability to facilitate groups.
- Current First Aid and CPR – or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Peace House utilizes databases such as Apricot, and other state reporting portals to track, document and monitor staff, volunteers and program data.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Occasional lifting, carrying and hauling of supplies 25 pounds and less; travel and attend offsite meetings
