South Franklin Community Center Coordinator (Full-Time)
United Way of Utah County South Franklin Community Center (Provo Location)
Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours/week (9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.)
About United Way of Utah County Community Centers
United Way of Utah County’s Community Centers are dedicated to fostering connectedness and self-efficacy within our communities. With three locations—Provo (South Franklin), Payson, and American Fork—our centers provide a welcoming space for individuals and families to learn, grow, and connect. We work with volunteers and partners to offer a wide range of free classes and activities, including playgroups, music lessons, choir, homework help, reading club, and adult classes such as Zumba, English as a Second Language (ESL) and computer literacy.
Position Description:
The AM Community Center Coordinator supports the evening operations and programming of the South Franklin Community Center. Working in close collaboration with the PM Coordinator, this position manages volunteers and interns, engages with community members, coordinates programs and events, and ensures the smooth and safe functioning of the center. This full-time position (40 hours per week) is scheduled to work during the daytime, with occasional extended hours required for special events. The AM Coordinator reports to the Community Centers’ Director and works closely with the PM coordinator to ensure continuity across programs and daily operations. While many responsibilities are handled independently, the role also involves regular collaboration on shared tasks, events, and center-wide priorities.
Position Responsibilities:
The duties listed below illustrate the type of work this position involves. This list is not exhaustive, and responsibilities may change based on the needs of the center.
Build relationships with community partners
- Visit and meet with community partners to form/strengthen relationships. (The Boulders, Provo School District, The LDS Church, Health Department, etc.)
- Give tours of the Community Center when scheduled.
- Work with community partners to provide new programs.
- Act as a representative of United Way in your interactions with the community.
Community outreach and communications
- Attend outreach events (occasional evenings)
- Create and distribute the newsletter for families and partners
- Update community center calendar with current programs and upcoming events
- Create and distribute fliers and other promotional materials, or delegate to VISTA/interns
- Manage and assist with outreach events to ensure effective promotion and public awareness of center programs and services
- Manage social media (assign intern or VISTA over social media, ensure brand guidelines are followed)
- Send out mass communications to registered families (center closed, upcoming events, etc.)
Community Engagement
- Build relationships with community members and families
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive culture
- Help ensure a safe and respectful environment by enforcing center policies
Parent Engagement
- Attend parent leadership council monthly meetings and support any needs they have like training, classes, events, etc.
- Work with parent leadership council to plan events and programs that meet community needs.
- Help with training parents on the Community Cafe framework.
- Work with the parent leadership council and PM coordinator to plan monthly Community Cafes.
- Recruit parents for the parent leadership council.
Volunteer and Intern Recruitment and Onboarding
- Conduct outreach to university internship coordinators.
- Create internship job listings for handshake, indeed, and the UW website.
- Interview interns
- Create volunteer needs listings for the volunteer center page, Just Serve, and other platforms.
- Oversee intern and volunteer onboarding and training.
- Plan volunteer appreciation with AM coordinator.
Reports and Records Keeping
- Train team on how to use the database for record keeping.
- Create and distribute data collection surveys at the end of each semester.
- Evaluate programs based on data collected.
- Work with the entire team to implement program changes based on data collected.
- Manage and ensure volunteer background checks are completed.
- Send monthly attendance reports to the Boys and Girls Club.
- Regularly review attendance and volunteer hours to ensure accuracy.
- Assist the Community Centers Director in pulling data for reports, presentations, etc., as needed.
- Provide data and information on programs to other UWUC departments as needed.
Capture and organize Community Center Team Knowledge
- Maintain the SharePoint organization and train team members on how to use it
- Work with the other coordinators to update manuals for staff, interns, and volunteers as needed
- Work with the other coordinators to update the Skyprep training as needed for interns and volunteers
Supervise and Coordinate with Current VISTA
- Work with the Community Centers Director to formulate VAD according to center needs
- Help manage VISTA employees
- Have weekly check-ins to go over progress and goals
- Approve VISTA hours
Supervise with PM Coordinator
- Lead weekly meetings with the whole team
- Maintain daily communication with PM coordinator
- Meet regularly with PM coordinator to check in, discuss upcoming calendar items, and plan together
- Provide accountability for team goals and projects
- Assign projects and delegate tasks as needed
- Provide support for any issues PM coordinator is having with interns
- Plan volunteer appreciation event with PM coordinator
- Work with PM coordinator for intern recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and training
Support Programs
- Stay up to date on the budget and keep program spending within the budget
- Shop for supplies and run errands for evening programs and events
- Assist with anything related to Summer Learning (go on field trips, pass out snacks, assist teachers, step in when needed)
- Order snacks from Boys and Girls Club for all programs.
- Work with PM coordinator to plan large events (health fair, Halloween, Christmas, Carnival, Graduations, Presentations, etc.)
- Work with PM coordinator to prepare the program schedule for the upcoming semester
- Attend all center events
Collaborate with Other UWUC Departments to Support Programs
- Work with the marketing team to update the website as needed.
- Work with the Every Day Learners Database Manager to make database improvements.
- Plan partner/corporate volunteer opportunities with the volunteer center.
- Collaborate with resource development to find donors for center needs and events.
Center Organization
- Maintain storage shed organized
- Keep an updated storage shed inventory document
- Maintain organization of closets and cupboards
- Work with the centers’ director to order supplies as needed
- Turn on the lobby ready and prese
- Make sure the center is presentable for visitors
Other Shared Daily Responsibilities with PM Coordinator
- Check the center email, texts, voicemails, Instagram and Facebook messages
- Maintain the community center (contact the boulders for any repairs, ensure AC and heater has been checked before seasons, water is turned on and off for sprinklers, anything that keeps the community center clean, functionable and welcoming to all)
- Work together to ensure center policies are followed to maintain a safe environment for everyone

Minimum Requirements:
Education, Training, and Experience:
- Minimum of associate’s degree required, bachelor’s degree preferred in Social Work, Family Science, Public Health, Human Services, or a related field preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- 1-2 years working with diverse populations, community engagement, or program coordination preferred, volunteer coordination, youth programming
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Valid Utah Driver’s License
- Access to a personal vehicle for use during work hours (mileage reimbursable)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to learn new software applications and databases
- English and Spanish fluency is required
- Must pass background check
Benefits and Compensation:
- Position based in Provo, UT. Typically schedule Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM- 5:30 PM. Some early mornings, late evenings, and occasional Saturdays are required for community events. Must be able to travel to the Provo, Payson, and American Fork facilities when needed.
