Therapeutic Preschool Specialist

Summary
The Children’s Center Utah has an opening for a part-time Therapeutic Preschool Specialist to act as a group facilitator in our Therapeutic Preschool Program. Training and opportunities for learning and growth are provided. This is for our afternoon shift; Monday through Friday, approximately 11:30 am - 4 pm. We are offering a $500 sign-on bonus; half paid at hire and the second half paid at 3 months. 
 
Responsibilities
  • Supervise small group of children in daily activities such as art, circle activities, snack, lunch, play time, gross motor play, and stories
  • Observe behaviors, reinforces positive behaviors, redirects negative behaviors, and provides positive modeling and reinforcement
  • Provide structure and consistent limits and expectations 
  • Engage physically with children, sometimes on the floor with them, lifting and carrying them, restraining them when necessary, etc.
  • Encourage children to share, express feelings appropriately, and play without aggression
  • Respond quickly to keep children positively occupied and interested
  • Correctly perform daily charting in the electronic medical records system

The Successful Candidate
  • You are passionate about our work. You are excited to work with children. You enthusiastically take advantage of the opportunity to be trained and develop skills in evidenced based models for dealing with children who have mental health and trauma challenges.
  • You are empathetic. Being able to build a trusting relationship with each child is paramount. Being able to understand the child’s experience through a trauma lens is helpful. 
  • You are a team player. You are excited to work with your classroom lead, volunteers, and the rest of the preschool team to provide exceptional care to our children.
Requirements
  • Minimum age of 18 years old
  • Experience working with young children
  • High school diploma or GED. College coursework in early childhood education, social work, psychology or other social science is strongly preferred. Training provided
  • First Aid and CPR certification and Food Handler’s Permit required within 30 days
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands to supervise active preschool children: lifting up to approximately 50lbs, bending, restraining children, sitting on the floor, etc. 
  • Must have strong writing skills and strong computer system skills to document files in electronic medical records system
Schedule
Approximately 25 hours per week. Afternoon shift: Monday-Friday, approximately 11:30 am - 4 pm.
 
Compensation: $16.50/hour. $500 sign-on bonus; half paid at hire and the second half paid at 3 months.
