Winter Break Drop-Ins: Mixed Media Portraits

Get inspired by the portraits in our current exhibition! We’ll start by practicing silly contour line drawings using mirrors, then jump into a fun portrait bingo challenge to spark new ideas. After warming up, you’ll create a one-of-a-kind self-portrait using all sorts of tactile materials such as fabric, felt, yarn, ribbon, and magazine cutouts to build a layered collage. Add images or symbols around your portrait that reflect your goals or hopes for the new year. This activity works for all ages, allowing younger artists to keep it simple while adults can dive deeper. Holiday Art Drop-Ins are open from 10 AM–3 PM. Projects typically take 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete—drop in anytime that works for you! All ages and abilities are welcome. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. No registration required.
