Position Type: Volunteer, Board of Directors
Location: 1515 E. 3300 S. Millcreek, Utah 84106
Time Commitment: Approximately 2 hours per month, including board meetings and committee work

The Sammy Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing inclusive, relationship-based care for young children and their families, with a focus on connection, regulation, and belonging. We serve children with diverse developmental needs through trauma-responsive, play-based programming that supports social-emotional growth and family engagement.
Position Overview
The Sammy Center is seeking a dedicated and community-minded individual with legal expertise to join our Board of Directors. This board member will provide guidance on legal, governance, and compliance matters, helping ensure the organization operates ethically, responsibly, and in alignment with all applicable laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal insight and guidance on governance, policies, and risk management
- Review and advise on contracts, agreements, and organizational documents
- Support compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Participate in board meetings and contribute to strategic planning
- Serve on committees as needed (e.g., governance, development)
- Act as an ambassador for The Sammy Center within the community
- Support fundraising efforts and organizational sustainability
Qualifications
- Professional experience in law (JD required; licensed attorney preferred)
- Knowledge of nonprofit governance, compliance, and risk management (preferred)
- Commitment to the mission of The Sammy Center
- Strong ethical standards and sound judgment
- Ability to collaborate and contribute in a team setting
- Prior board experience is a plus, but not required
