Board of Directors - WasteLess Solutions - Volunteer Role
Founded in 2018 in Salt Lake City, WasteLess Solutions has rescued more than 3 million pounds of food which is the equivalent of feeding three meals a day to over 600,000 individuals. We operate three core programs:
Food Rescue – Using a web-based app and a network of volunteers, we collect surplus food from restaurants, caterers, cafeterias, grocery stores, farms, and farmers markets, and deliver it to receiving agencies such as shelters, children’s programs, and community centers.
Neighborhood Nourishment - We repurpose rescued food into nutritious, ready-to eat meals, created in licensed kitchens with chef or volunteer labor. Through this program, we also operate mobile markets: pop-up events that distribute free, fresh food directly to neighborhoods with limited access
Education – We provide practical, accessible education to help Utahns reduce food waste at home and in businesses through speaking engagements, social media, workshops, tabling, media appearances, and our soon to be launched website education modules.
As we continue to grow, we are seeking individuals who are passionate about climate action, food equity, and sustainability to join our Board of Directors. This is a unique opportunity to apply your leadership and creativity to an urgent issue that sits at the intersection of environmental protection, public health, and social justice. We’re a small team doing big things.
Board members serve a 2 year term (renewable) and play a crucial role in our continued success and long-term impact. Board Member Responsibilities include:
Leadership, Governance & Strategy
Actively participate in strategic planning, board meetings (bi-monthly), and project work as needed.
Provide guidance and oversight in shaping and evaluating organizational goals and performance.
Approve budgets, key decisions, and support the CEO in mission alignment and accountability.
Help build and maintain a diverse, inclusive, and well-functioning board.
Ambassadorship
Act as a public advocate for WasteLess Solutions and our mission.
Help expand our visibility in the community by making connections with individuals, businesses, and institutions.
Share the importance of reducing food waste as a climate solution with your own network.
Fundraising & Resource Development
Make a personal annual financial contribution that is meaningful to you. We recommend $2,000 - give or get but are open to discussion regarding this contribution.
Support fundraising efforts by helping identify grants, sponsorships, and potential donors.
Leverage personal and professional connections to expand the organization’s network and opportunities.

Organization Mission : WasteLess Solutions is a nonprofit committed to reducing food waste in Utah through education, prevention, and diversion. We focus on keeping edible food out of landfills and instead, getting it to those who are food insecure in our community. In doing so, we not only help feed people, we also help fight climate change. Food waste is a major contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, and by rescuing food, we’re
reducing methane production from landfills, conserving natural resources, and creating a more sustainable, equitable food system.
