Overview

The Treasurer serves as a key officer of the NOVA Principles Foundation, responsible for the oversight of the organization’s financial health, internal controls, compliance, and reporting. Working closely with the Executive Director/Bookkeeper, the Treasurer ensures transparent stewardship of resources in support of NOVA’s mission. This position provides leadership to the Finance Committee, guides annual budgeting and audit processes, and reports regularly to the Board of Directors regarding the Foundation’s financial condition.


Expectations

  • Attend and actively participate in all Board of Directors meetings (virtual).
  • Chair and lead the monthly Finance Committee to ensure strong fiscal oversight
  • (virtual).
  • Make a monthly or annual charitable contribution at a level personally meaningful and commensurate with your ability to give.
  • Provide oversight, guidance, and assistance to the bookkeeper (Executive Director) regarding nonprofit accrual-based accounting entries and adjustments.
  • Review and participate in the approval of the auditor engagement and the scope of work performed.
  • Uphold the highest standards of financial ethics, transparency, and accountability.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review monthly financial statements, bank reconciliations, and other internal accounting reports.
  • Conduct monthly Finance Committee meetings, ensuring decisions and follow-up actions are documented.
  • Present concise reports on the Foundation’s financial position and outlook during bi-monthly Board of Directors meetings.
  • Lead the engagement and selection of independent auditors to conduct the annual audit.
  • Oversee the timely completion and filing of IRS Form 990 and other related tax forms.
  • Review quarterly payroll tax filings and ensure overall tax compliance.
  • Monitor adherence to nonprofit financial policies and help update them as needed.
  • Perform additional duties required to maintain accurate financial reporting and sound accounting practices.
