Virtual Volunteer Scholarship Reviewers Wanted! Make a difference today!

Nightingale Foundation is seeking Volunteer Scholarship Reviewers to support the evaluation and selection of scholarship recipients. Scholarship Reviewers play a vital role in ensuring that awards are distributed fairly, thoughtfully, and in alignment with the Foundation's mission and established scholarship criteria.

Reviewers will evaluate scholarship applications, assess applicants' qualifications and circumstances, and provide objective recommendations to the the Nightingale Foundation Team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about nursing education, student success, philanthropy, educational equity, and workforce development and who want to make a direct impact on students pursuing careers in nursing.

Key Responsibilities

View a virtual training webinar to learn how to use the scholarship software, Submittable.

Review scholarship applications using established eligibility requirements and evaluation criteria.

Assess applicants' academic goals, financial need, personal circumstances, leadership, service, career aspirations, and/or other criteria relevant to individual scholarship programs.

Provide thoughtful, objective, and consistent scores and written feedback as requested.

Maintain strict confidentiality regarding applicant information and scholarship decisions.

Identify and disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest.

Complete assigned application reviews within established deadlines.

Participate in virtual scholarship committee discussions or selection meetings, when applicable.

Ideal Volunteer

Nightingale Foundation welcomes individuals with a variety of professional and lived experiences. The ideal Scholarship Reviewer will have:

A genuine interest in supporting students pursuing nursing education and healthcare careers.

Strong judgment and the ability to evaluate applications objectively.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The ability to follow established evaluation criteria and scoring procedures.

Strong attention to detail and reliability in meeting deadlines.

A commitment to confidentiality and ethical decision-making.

An appreciation for the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and challenges of scholarship applicants.


Experience in nursing, higher education, nonprofit leadership, philanthropy, grantmaking, scholarship administration, financial aid, human resources, education, or workforce development is helpful but not required.


Time Commitment

Scholarship review is generally conducted during designated application and selection periods three times per year. Volunteers can expect approximately 8-10 hours per application cycle, depending on the number of applications assigned. All volunteer time will occur virtually. 

Reviewers may be asked to participate in a brief orientation session before beginning the review process.
