Volunteer Scholarship Reviewers Wanted!
Nightingale Foundation is seeking dedicated and detail-oriented volunteers to serve as Scholarship Reviewers in support of our mission to increase access and opportunity to nursing education.
Role Details: As a Volunteer Scholarship Reviewer, you will play a critical role in helping to identify and elevate deserving scholarship applicants. Reviewers evaluate scholarship applications each semester, including narrative responses and videos, and provide thoughtful, unbiased assessments based on established scoring criteria.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in a brief training of the online scholarship software, Submittable.
- Review and score assigned scholarship applications within a defined timeframe and according to fund scope and eligibility.
- Evaluate applicant narrative responses and video submissions.
- Provide fair, equitable, and objective assessments of provided applicant materials.
- Adhere to reviewer guidelines and scoring rubrics.
- Be committed to completing scoring of assigned applications in a timely manner.
Volunteer Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and sound judgment.
- Ability to assess written materials critically and equitably.
- Commitment to confidentiality and integrity in the review process.
- Prior experience in education, nonprofit work, or application review is a plus (not required).
- Passion for advancing nursing educational access and supporting nursing postsecondary completion.
Time Commitment: Nightingale Foundation has scholarship cycles each academic semester (3x per year). Each semester, there are a range of scholarship funds open (from 1-7), all of which need volunteer scholarship reviewers. Volunteers can commit for one semester or more depending on their interest and availability. On average, volunteer scholarship reviewers score 20-30 applications, which can take around 8-10 hours depending on the individual reviewer. All applications are reviewed in the online software, Submittable, making access and submission easy. All reviews are completed remotely, allowing for a flexible schedule.
Why Volunteer:
- Scholarship Reviewers are directly responsible for choosing scholarship awardees based on their scoring rubrics, making this volunteer work impactful. Annually, Nightingale Foundation distributes $100k+ in scholarship awards to nursing students in need.
- You get to engage with a mission-driven organization and make a meaningful impact on nursing students’ education journeys.
- Reviewers gain insight info scholarship selection processes and are able to contribute their expertise to transparent and equitable review process.
