Board of Directors Ongoing Opportunity

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of dachshunds? Do you have experience in bookkeeping or financial management? If so, Rocky Mountain Dachshund Rescue (RMDR) invites you to join our Board of Directors as a Volunteer Treasurer. This vital role is a unique opportunity to contribute your financial expertise to support our mission of rescuing and rehoming dachshunds in need.


About Rocky Mountain Dachshund Rescue

• RMDR is a no-kill rescue that operates as a home-based foster network.

• Our mission is focused on rescuing and rehoming dachshunds.

• Founded in 2022 in Salt Lake City, Utah as a 501(c)3 non-profit.

• In 2024, we served 42 dachshunds and dachshund mixes.

• We are licensed by the Colorado Department of Agriculture Pet Care Program.

• We are a community of inclusion that values diverse perspectives and welcomes all who share our passion for dachshunds.


Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate financial records and bookkeeping for the organization.

• Manage accounts payable and receivable, including tracking donations and expenses.

• Prepare quarterly financial reports for Board meetings.

• Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial regulations and reporting requirements.

• Assist in creating and managing the annual budget.

• Collaborate with the Board on fundraising initiatives and financial planning.

• Help track the costs of veterinary care, which is a major expense for the organization.

• Ensure that the organization's finances align with our goals for dog welfare and rescue.


Requirements

• Experience with bookkeeping or financial management (nonprofit experience preferred but not required).

• Familiarity with accounting software and Excel.

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

• Ability to commit approximately 10 hours per quarter for bookkeeping and accounting tasks.

• Availability to attend quarterly Board meetings (virtual or in-person).


Financial Details

• RMDR's fiscal year runs from January 1 to December 31.

• In 2024, our total operating income was $44,529.83, including adoption fees, contributions, in-kind donations, and fundraising.

• We had total rescue expenditures of $46,775.14, primarily for veterinary costs, dental and medical, and supplies for dogs.

• $0.95 of every dollar goes directly to paying vet bills.

• We rely heavily on adoption fees and contributions to fund our rescue efforts.
