Accounting Manager

Admin/Operations Management Program/Project Management

The accounting manager supports the documentation and organization of MWEG’s incoming revenue, including donations, grants, and other receivables. This employee manages the entry, coding, and documentation of donor and grant records, and collaborates with the development and MWEG leadership teams to support accurate reporting and compliance. Additionally, this employee will share responsibility for MWEG’s budget development, reconciliation, and reporting across departments.

Project or Position

The accounting manager supports the documentation and organization of MWEG’s incoming revenue, including donations, grants, and other receivables. This employee manages the entry, coding, and documentation of donor and grant records, and collaborates with the development and MWEG leadership teams to support accurate reporting and compliance. Additionally, this employee will share responsibility for MWEG’s budget development, reconciliation, and reporting across departments.


The ideal candidate has several years of experience in accounting work in addition to management experience.


Tasks

Role responsibilities:

  • Track grant budgets, spending progress, and documentation requirements.
  • Monitor grant deadlines and coordinate financial documentation for proposals or renewals.
  • Manage MWEG’s accounting team and work closely with the full finance team.
  • Enter donation and other revenue into the donor database and accounting software, as assigned.
  • Coordinate with the development/fundraising team to ensure accurate donor records and coding.
  • Work with the development team to maintain organized digital files for all donations and grants in accordance with MWEG’s financial policies.
  • Prepare summaries or schedules needed by MWEG finance team and leadership.
  • Prep materials and agenda for finance committee meetings.
  • Track budget vs. actuals and prepare reports for executive directors upon request.


Skills and Experience

All staff and volunteers must commit to operate according to our core values and ideas. These include MWEG’s principles of ethical government, inviolable practices and principles, and principles of peacemaking. These should be applied whenever they represent the organization. They must be willing to learn how to use and communicate within the Basecamp collaborative platform.


Position required experience:

This role is best suited to someone with moderate to advanced experience in the accounting field.


Position-specific skills include:

  • Excellent attention to financial details.
  • Strong proficiency in accounting software (Quickbooks or similar).
  • Supportive management experience.
  • Clear and confident communication skills with internal and external partners.
  • Excellent time management and planning skills.
  • Fluent financial reporting skills.


Setting

MWEG staff and volunteers are spread all over the country and rely on technological platforms to facilitate communication. They will be given access to an MWEG Google account, including Gmail and Drive, in addition to Basecamp, an asynchronous communication platform to collaborate virtually with their team. Regular video meetings will take place via Google Meet or Zoom, with an option to call in by phone if needed.


MWEG uses remote workplace software. All employees must attend training meetings the first week of their contract to learn how to use and communicate within the Basecamp collaborative platform.


All employees are required to be members of MWEG and are encouraged to be personally engaged with the mission of the organization.


Schedule & Compensation

This role will require 15-20 hours per week. The accounts receivables manager sits on the finance committee and will have set meetings on a regular rhythm.


Compensation: $28-32/hour based on experience


Training and Supervision

We provide a thorough onboarding checklist and support to help volunteers and staff get familiar with organizational values and technological platforms. Volunteers and staff will have access to ongoing professional development and leadership training. We are committed to matching people to positions that help them extend their skills and meet their professional goals. Mentorship is provided.
