AmeriCorps Member - financial coaching and employment specialist for those receiving housing subsidy from Housing Connect

12 Month 900-hour commitment

As an AmeriCorps member, the pay, called a “living stipend", is $12,321 that will be split up & distributed over the period of 12 months bi-weekly. Each bi-weekly check will be $473.88.

This is a part -time contract/commitment for one year (12 months) with a minimum of 900 hours.

Upon successful completion of the contract, minimum hours and satisfactory fulfillment of the one-year contract, you would be eligible for an Education Award of $3,697.50.

AmeriCorps Program Overview

Salt Lake County's Most Vulnerable Populations AmeriCorps Program focuses on reducing systematic inequities. Our members help bridge the gap and reduce barriers for a variety of vulnerable populations including but not limited to; youth, individuals experiencing homelessness, and those involved in the Criminal Justice System. AmeriCorps is a voluntary civil society program supported by the U.S. federal government, foundations, corporations, and other donors by engaging adults in public service work, with a goal of helping others and meeting critical needs in the community. "The program is often seen as the domestic Peace Corps."

POSITION SUMMARY

AmeriCorps Member- Financial Coach and Employment Specialist for those receiving housing subsidy through Housing Connect

The AmeriCorps Member will serve up to 100 households receiving a housing voucher through Housing Connect. The primary goal of the AmeriCorps member is to provide low-income households with employment services and financial coaching. The AmeriCorps member will work with the households to create and maintain budgets, build credit, increase savings and decrease debt. In addition, the AmeriCorps member will connect households to employment resources (resume building, interview skills, etc.) to increase household income.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday – Hours are Flexible between 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Have a broader understanding of vulnerable populations.
  • Gain experience regarding community outreach and partnerships.
  • Gain knowledge regarding government benefits such as affordable housing, SNAP, Medicaid/Medicare, financial assistance.
  • Learn to solve complex situations with professionalism, empathy and from a Trauma Informed Care perspective.
  • Learn how to work independently as well as in different team settings.

DEMOSTRATED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Computer Program (i.e., Microsoft)
  • Issues impacting individuals who have been or are homeless.
  • Methods and techniques of effective case management and assessment skills.
  • Approach problems pro-actively with a solution-based focus Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Establish working relationships with residents, co-workers, and other professionals. Work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Provide constructive and professional feedback to clients.
  • Maintain client confidentiality.
  • Display cultural competency, appreciation, compassion and understanding for the needs of clients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must pass an FBI Criminal Background Check.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or GED. *Some or a College degree in social services a plus!
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Able to operate standard office equipment.
