Job Title: AmeriCorps Student Success Program Member
Modeled after the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps is a national program that enables people to contribute to the betterment of their community while gaining excellent experience, receiving a regular living allowance, and earning an education award to help pay for college expenses.
Reports to: Principal or other designated on-site supervisor as well as Director of the AmeriCorps Student Success Program.
Direct Reports: None
Goal: The AmeriCorps Student Success Program is seeking AmeriCorps Members to provide one-on-one support for students at their assigned schools throughout Utah. AmeriCorps Members help students feel more excited about school and learning, gain confidence, and improve school performance. AmeriCorps Members receive excellent training and support as they gain marketable skills and experience and prepare for a lifetime of meaningful contributions.
Summary of Work: AmeriCorps Members serve in elementary and secondary schools throughout Utah. They provide one-on-one and/or small group intervention support with a caseload of specific students identified by the school/district.

Member Key Responsibilities:
AmeriCorps Members' responsibilities vary depending on the needs of the students and schools where they serve. The duties and responsibilities of each member are determined by the service site. Members serve during weekdays on-site following the school schedule and calendar. Responsibilities and duties may include any or all of the following:
● Promoting student attendance and implementing improvement strategies
● Providing or arranging for one-on-one tutoring and other academic supports
● Promoting and providing social emotional learning support
● Connecting students and families with community resources to help meet basic needs
● Enhancing school-family connections and assisting with home visits as needed
● Helping students set and achieve weekly goals so they can take ownership of their academic and behavioral progress
● Recruiting and training volunteers to assist with one-on-one tutoring, mentoring or school events that focus on literacy, career and college options, family involvement, etc.
ALL members have the following key responsibilities from AmeriCorps:
● Track intervention activities with a caseload of students, utilizing data digital online data tracking process (training will assist with this)
● Submit student data reports and other program assignments
● Attend and participate in initial and ongoing mandatory training
● Complete a minimum amount of service hours per month *determined by position type)
● Participate in National Days of Service (9/11 and MLK Day)
● Adhere to AmeriCorps policies and code of conduct
Member Qualifications:
● High school graduate
● Age 18+ years
● US Citizen or lawful permanent resident
● High standards of professional ethics and conduct
● Desire to make a difference in your community
● Member must submit to and pass an FBI background check/sex offender check conducted prior to hire
● Basic computer skills preferred including experience with spreadsheets (training is available)
● Able to serve during typical school hours and onsite either in elementary or secondary schools
● Experience working with children or youth preferred
● Good organization & communication skills
● Punctual, reliable, and a team player

● Interest in pursuing a career in education, social work, or another related field
Wage: $600-1200/month (available until the end of the 2026 academic year)
AmeriCorps Members are National Service Members and not employees. Rather than an hourly rate, members receive a monthly living allowance during their service term determined by the position type. The living allowance ranges from $600-$1200/month.
● Part-Time
○ 900 hours - 35-40 hours/week
○ 10 month term
○ Approx. $1,200.00 monthly living allowance
● Reduced Half-Time
○ 675 hours - 24-26 hours/week
○ 10 month term
○ Approx. $900.00 monthly living allowance
● Quarter-Time
○ 450 hours - 15-24 hours/week
○ 10 month term
○ 600.00 monthly living allowance
Locations: Positions available in Box Elder, Cache, Weber, Ogden, Davis, Iron, Millard, Morgan, Salt Lake, Utah, and Sanpete counties/surrounding areas.
Benefits:
● Gain Experience - Gain first-hand experience in education and social work; develop excellent management, organization, and volunteer recruitment and supervision skills as they work hand in hand with professional educators to manage a meaningful and effective student success program in a school; many AmeriCorps members receive internship credit for their service as they pursue their degree.
● Education Award - At the end of each honorably completed service year, members receive an education award that can be used for tuition, fees, and books at any accredited post-secondary institution or towards payment of student loans.
● Part-time (900 hours) = $3,697.50
● Reduced Half-Time (675) = $2,817.14
● Quarter-Time (450) = $1,956.35
○ Members over the age of 55 can transfer their education award to a
child or grandchild
● Health Care Subsidy and Child Care Assistance (for full-time and reduced full-time members) - A health insurance subsidy and child care assistance is available for full-time and reduced full-time members serving 32+ hours/week.
● Student Loan Forbearance - All members qualify for forbearance of payments on current student loans
● On-going Professional Development and Support - Members receive training, support and encouragement as well as check-in’s and site visits from our program staff during their term of service and ongoing access to the nationwide AmeriCorps Alumni Network that can help them with networking, employment and mentorship.
