Guadalupe Center – Salt Lake City, UT
Job Type: FT – Full-time

Monday through Friday 

  • Shift: 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Salary: $16.50 – $19.50/hour

Job Objective: Work as a lead childcare teacher for children between the ages of 1 to 12 Years old.

Minimum Qualification: High school diploma or GED


Position Summary:

Guadalupe Center is composed of innovative, dynamic, and professional faculty members. The Assistant

Preschool Teacher is a faculty member whose main priority is assisting the Preschool lead teacher with instructing students based on Utah’s Early Learning Standards, developmentally appropriate practices, and requirements of Guadalupe Center’s mission, goal, and objectives. Assistant Preschool Teachers are part of the larger Guadalupe Center, and therefore are expected to follow the requirements of Guadalupe Centers mission, goal, and objectives when interacting with students, parents, staff, and the community.


Qualifications:

  • A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit school employment
  • Willingness to learn and stay knowledgeable in current educational practices
  • Ability to be sensitive, appropriately accepting, and caring towards children and other adults
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred

Essential Functions:

Classroom Responsibilities:


  • Work cooperatively with the classroom teachers to implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum for the students.
  •  Work closely with the lead teachers who act as your immediate supervisors.
  • Take direction from the teacher as to curriculum instruction including preparation of learning materials, presentation of whole group instruction, teaching small groups or learning centers.
  • Follow lesson plans to teach individual students during intentional free play.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and use of the curriculum chosen by Guadalupe Center.
  • Demonstrate use of technology, both as a learning tool and to manage classroom activities.
  • Follow lead teacher’s structure to manage groups of students, whether in whole classroom groups, small groups, pairs, or individually. This management also extends beyond the
  • classroom for recess duty, lunchroom, assemblies, specials classes transitions, etc.
  • Participate actively in collaborative meetings between teachers to help craft instruction plans and implementation strategies.
  • Stay alert to students’ engagement levels, on task participation, and possible confusion or frustration and be ready to assist students when appropriate.
  • Perform computer tasks as directed by the teacher, including parent communication, attendance recording, or use of basic word processing tools.
  • Work in a team setting with all Guadalupe Center staff to maintain positive daily routines.
  • Create a learning atmosphere that is respectful to teacher/student interactions.
  • Be able to manage groups of students in the classroom and outside of it for recess duty, lunchroom, assemblies, transition between specials classes, etc.
  • Cooperate with the classroom teacher and with other teachers.
  • Maintain the Guadalupe Center behavior management plan at all times, including when on field trips or other off-site events.
  • Assist students in achieving their individualized learning goals and objectives.
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of students’ individualized learning plans.
  • Conduct learning as directed by the teacher in a whole class environment, small group, or one-on-one.
  • Assist in assessment.
  • Support and enhance the work of Guadalupe Center’s mission.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to learning and staying up to date on best practices and propose improvements as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work with volunteers and parents.
  • Attend and participate in training sessions and professional development.
  • Support school-wide events as necessary.
  • Demonstrate professional practices and responsibilities.
  • Treat colleagues, parents, and students with respect and honest communication.
  • Collaborate with faculty and parents to creatively solve problems and make decisions that will benefit the student and the school.
  • Reflect on teaching practices, assess effectiveness and develop a variety of teaching techniques.
  • Collaborate with other agency staff to creatively solve problems and make innovative decisions that will benefit Guadalupe Center.
  • Follow all of Guadalupe Center’s policies and procedures.
  • Personal Characteristics

  • Establish and maintain appropriate professional relationships with students and families.
  • Adhere to required confidentiality practices.
  • Demonstrate dependability, regular attendance, consistent punctuality, efficient management of work schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Types: Full Time

Education: Associate (Preferred)

Experience: Preschool: 1 year (Preferred)

Language: Spanish/English (Preferred)

License/Certification: CPR Certification (Preferred)
