Associate Director of Real Life Program
Purpose
The Real Life program empowers youth—primarily from refugee and immigrant backgrounds—by teaching practical life skills through engaging, hands-on learning. The Associate Director plays a vital leadership role in ensuring high-quality programming across multiple sites. Working in close collaboration with the Real Life Director, the Associate Director will supervise a team of interns, support daily operations, cultivate strong relationships with site partners, and ensure every site is welcoming, well-prepared, and impactful.
Location
This position oversees a portfolio of Real Life partner sites across Salt Lake County, with weekly travel between sites required. Click here for a list of Real Life sites.
Key Responsibilities
Program & Site Oversight
- Oversee operations at approximately 8 assigned Real Life sites.
- Visit each site weekly to provide leadership, mentorship, and classroom support.
- Ensure lesson plans and supplies are prepared and delivered on time.
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all students.
- Serve as a point of contact and maintain strong relationships with site partners and staff.
Intern Supervision & Support
- Directly supervise and mentor assigned Real Life Interns.
- Hold weekly office hours with interns to review upcoming lessons, gather feedback, and prep materials.
- Support interns in building relationships with volunteers and site staff.
- Address intern performance issues and escalate concerns to the Real Life Director as needed.
Program Planning & Communication
- Coordinate and submit monthly site calendars by the 20th of the month prior.
- Attend partner and staff meetings to support collaboration and program alignment.
- Communicate regularly with the Real Life Director to ensure seamless program operations.
Curriculum Development
- Contribute new lessons and activity ideas to enhance the Real Life lesson bank (optional but encouraged, as time allows).
Qualifications
- Passion for education, equity, and youth development
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Experience with classroom management, volunteer supervision, or curriculum facilitation
- Cultural humility and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Based in the Salt Lake area with reliable transportation
- Able to pass a background check
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Past experience with the Real Life program preferred
