THRIVE Center for Survivors of Torture is seeking to fill positions on our Board of Directors.


Meeting Schedule: Every other month, 2nd Tuesday, 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

Location: Murray, UT. Some meetings may take place over Microsoft Teams


About THRIVE Center for Survivors of Torture: THRIVE Center for Survivors of Torture is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing holistic services to refugee and immigrant survivors of torture. Our goal is to empower survivors through comprehensive support that includes medical, psychological, legal, and social services, fostering healing and integration into their new communities.


Role Overview: The Board of Directors is the governing body responsible for the strategic oversight and governance of THRIVE . Board members work collaboratively to ensure the organization fulfills its mission, maintains financial health, and adheres to the highest standards of ethical conduct.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Oversight:
    • Participate in the development and implementation of the organization's strategic plan.
    • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure the organization remains aligned with its mission and goals.
    • Monitor and evaluate organizational performance and impact.
  2. Governance:
    • Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards and norms.
    • Participate in the development and approval of organizational policies and procedures.
    • Advocate for the organization's mission, programs, and services within the community.
  3. Financial Stewardship:
    • Oversee and approve the annual budget and financial reports.
    • Ensure the organization has adequate resources to fulfill its mission.
    • Participate in fundraising and development efforts, including donor engagement and special events.
  4. Executive Support:
    • Hire, support, and evaluate the Executive Director.
    • Provide guidance and support to the Executive Director and senior leadership team.
    • Ensure effective organizational planning and resource allocation.
  5. Board Engagement:
    • Attend and actively participate in regular board meetings and other special meetings as needed.
    • Serve on committees or task forces and offer to take on special assignments.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of THRIVE Center for Survivors of Torture.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: non-profit management, finance, law, healthcare, mental health, social services, fundraising, community outreach, or public relations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with diverse groups of people.
  • Prior board experience is preferred but not required.
  • Willingness to commit time and resources to the organization’s work, including attendance at board meetings and participation in fundraising and advocacy efforts.

Term and Time Commitment: Board members serve a term of 3 years, with the possibility of renewal. The board meets every other month on the 2nd Tuesday from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, with additional committee meetings and events as needed.
