Organization
Salt Lake Academy of Music (SLAM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing youth in Salt Lake County with access to music education. We offer instruments, lessons, performance, recording, and touring programs both in-person and online, on a sliding scale. Our award-winning faculty includes musicians from diverse genres and backgrounds. SLAM also supports adult learners and accepts tax-deductible donations in cash, credit, checks, cryptocurrency, and in-kind musical instruments for our students and public schools.
Role Description
This volunteer position requires a 5-10 hour monthly commitment, including a one-hour board meeting and a one-hour committee meeting.
Responsibilities
- Support and advocate for SLAM's mission and strategies.
- Stay informed about SLAM’s challenges and assist in overcoming them.
- Promote SLAM to your network.
- Support SLAM's Executive Director and staff.
- Help set and execute SLAM’s mission, goals, and strategies.
- Recruit and cultivate potential board and committee members.
- Serve on at least one committee (Executive, Finance, Development, Nominating, Community Relations, Fundraising).
- Prepare for and attend at least 80% of board and committee meetings.
- Avoid conflicts of interest, maintain confidentiality, and fulfill fiduciary duties.
- Make an annual financial contribution according to your means.
- Seek new funding opportunities and participate in fundraising efforts.
- Assist in the hiring, termination, and evaluation of the Executive Director.
- Participate in board self-evaluations.
Qualifications
- Experience in nonprofit board, committee, management, or governance
- Skills in nonprofit fundraising, financial literacy, budgeting, and donor cultivation
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
- Collaborative team player
- Knowledge of music education, production, or business
