Part-Time Bookkeeper / Accountant

Organization: Friends for Sight
Location: In Office preferred
Hours: Approximately 3–5 hours per week
Compensation: $20-25 an hour depending on experience

Position Overview

Friends for Sight is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Part-Time Bookkeeper / Accountant to support our financial operations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with small nonprofits and can manage core accounting functions efficiently in a limited number of hours each week.

The Bookkeeper / Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audit preparation, and providing clear financial reporting to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.


Key Responsibilities

Bookkeeping & Financial Management

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records
  • Manage general ledger and chart of accounts
  • Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Process and track accounts payable and receivable
  • Ensure timely payment of invoices and proper documentation
  • Monitor incoming funds, including donations and grants

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare monthly financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow)
  • Provide financial reports and summaries for the Executive Director and Board of Directors
  • Assist in creating clear, understandable financial insights for non-financial audiences

Budgeting & Planning

  • Support annual budgeting process
  • Assist with budget tracking and variance reporting
  • Develop basic financial projections and forecasts

Audit & Compliance

  • Prepare financial records and documentation for annual audit or financial review
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and grant requirements
  • Maintain organized financial files and documentation

Grant & Fund Tracking

  • Track restricted vs. unrestricted funds
  • Assist in financial reporting for grants as needed


Qualifications

  • Experience in bookkeeping or accounting (nonprofit experience preferred)
  • Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks or similar)
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently
  • Comfortable communicating financial information to non-finance staff

  • Has experience supporting small nonprofits or small businesses
  • Can work efficiently within a limited weekly time commitment
  • Is proactive and identifies improvements in financial processes
  • Values mission-driven work and community impact
