Bookkeeper / Accounting Associate

Finance and Accounting

About the role
Habitat for Humanity of Summit and Wasatch Counties builds and preserves affordable housing for ownership in two of Utah's most expensive markets. We are a small team doing complex work — multiple entities, LIHTC and CROWN compliance, construction lending, and an annual audit — and we need someone who keeps the financial machinery running accurately and on time.

This role sits at the center of that machinery. You'll assist with the day-to-day transactional accounting and the integrity of our donor and financial data, working directly with the CFO and our other financial staff. If you want to see how nonprofit and affordable homeownership finance actually works from the inside, this is an unusually good seat.

What you'll do

Transactional accounting

  • Assist in processing accounts payable and accounts receivable: code and enter invoices, prepare payment runs, and track receivables
  • Assist in performing monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support month-end and year-end closes and audit

Donor and revenue data

  • Assist in maintaining the donor database: enter gifts promptly, keep records clean and current, and process acknowledgments
  • Reconcile the donor database to the general ledger monthly so contribution revenue ties out

General support

  • Maintain organized digital records that support our annual audit and funder reporting
  • Additional finance and administrative support as the organization's needs evolve

What we're looking for

  • 2+ years in a finance, accounting, bookkeeping, or administrative coordinator role
  • Solid grasp of basic accounting mechanics: AP, AR, reconciliations, and the difference between a debit and a credit
  • Comfort with accounting and database software. Experience with QuickBooks Online, Dext, or a donor CRM is a plus; a demonstrated ability to pick up new systems quickly matters more
  • Genuinely detail-oriented. This work feeds directly into Board decisions, funder reports, and our annual audit
  • Organized and self-directed: you manage recurring deadlines without being reminded
  • Comfortable working within a controls framework — dual approvals, documented review, and clean audit trails
  • Discretion with confidential donor and financial information
  • Curiosity and flexibility. We are small, and the work changes as the organization grows
  • Successful completion of a background check, drug screening, and reference check, given this role's access to donor and financial data

What you'll get

You will report directly to a CFO at an organization with real multi-entity accounting, affordable housing compliance, construction loan administration, and a full annual audit. That is exposure you will not get in a comparable clerk role, and we will invest in it: we support professional development, including QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification and continuing education toward accounting credentials.

You'll also get a flexible schedule, and the knowledge that the numbers you keep straight translate directly into homes for families in our community.

Benefits

PTO, holidays, health contribution, dental insurance, vision insurance, 401k with company match up to 3%, professional development, employee discount
