Clean Slate Utah Case Manager

Organization's Mission
Clean Slate Utah is a new 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to raise awareness of Utah's Clean Slate law and help justice-involved individuals access free and low-cost legal expungement services that can help them move forward with their lives. Clean Slate Utah is a bipartisan organization that works in coalition with many community-based organizations, trusted community pillars, and emerging leaders.
Position Summary
The Utah State Legislature unanimously passed Utah's Clean Slate law, which was signed into law in March 2019. While implementation efforts began in 2020, official clearance of records did not officially begin until February 10, 2022. As a result of this law, over 450,000 Utahns will have at least one case automatically cleared. Clean Slate Utah was founded in 2021 to: • Raise awareness of Utah's Clean Slate law. • Help ensure Utah's Clean Slate law is fully implemented and that all eligible records are automatically cleared. • Get the word out to individuals with records about the new law and its potential impact on their lives. • Assist individuals with cleared records in taking advantage of new opportunities resulting from cleared records.
OVERVIEW
The Fresh Start Program assists clients in determining eligibility for automatic expungement, potential financial assistance for the application fees, and other resources to assist individuals in the petition-based process/pardon within the legal system.
JOB SUMMARY
As the Case Manager, you are responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and day-to-day administration of the Fresh Start Program. This position will be responsible for managing and helping people determine whether they are eligible for automatic or petition-based clearance. For those who are not eligible for automatic expungement, this program will help individuals start the court-based expungement or pardon process. May work with the court system, other NGOs, government agencies, and others to assist individuals navigating the expungement/pardon process. This position may also perform administrative duties as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
● Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
● Two-plus years of case management experience is preferred.
● Experience working with and leading diverse groups of people.
● Knowledge of the criminal justice system, behavioral health services, or experience in a legal setting are a plus.
● Must be well organized and have strong oral and written communication skills.
● Demonstrates professional and cooperative interaction with diverse groups, external partners, and community members.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent multidisciplinary skills.
● Action-oriented, adaptable, and innovative approach to organizational and program management
● Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, creative, problem-solving skills, organized, flexible, and self-directed.
● Spanish speaking preferred
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
● Works directly with the Executive Director.
● Helps clients determine their potential eligibility for expungement and/or pardon relief under Utah law.
● Helps eligible individuals complete the expungement/pardon process from start to finish.
● Determine whether individuals qualify for financial support through Clean Slate Utah
● Managing all paperwork within the Fresh Start Program
● Regular analysis of organizational processes and work to improve quality, productivity and efficiency.
● Communicates with the public regarding their personal criminal records.
● Works with community leaders and partners to mobilize community support.
● Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Executive Director, BCI, Courts and Legislators.
● Perform data analysis and evaluation of program quality and effectiveness as a team.
● Must be comfortable giving presentations, speaking in public, and outreach events as needed.
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

● Must be proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.
● Must be detail-oriented and well-organized.
● Ability to work in high-pressure situations.
● Ability to work with client’s sensitive legal information in a confidential and respectful manner.
