This position provides advocacy, case management, crisis intervention, and safety planning for survivors at the Lifeline and Prevention Center at Safe Harbor Crisis Center.  The Community Advocate collaborates closely with medical personnel, law enforcement, the court system, and other community partners to coordinate services, promote education, and increase awareness of the impact of domestic and sexual violence on survivors.

Summary of Descriptions and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the forensic exam on-call rotation, including one designated business day per week, one weekend per month (48 hours), and two holidays annually (24 hours).
  • Provide rotating onsite building coverage Monday–Thursday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
  • Fulfill rotating Protective Order Court Lead responsibilities on Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m.
  • Maintain and manage an active caseload of domestic and sexual violence survivors.
  • Deliver comprehensive, wraparound victim advocacy services.
  • Assist survivors with protective order applications.

Essential Functions/Skills:

  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, including effective interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and crisis management.
  • Provide trauma-informed, survivor-centered crisis intervention and emotional support to survivors to reduce trauma and promote safety and stability.
  • Maintain strict adherence to state and federal confidentiality laws and ethical standards related to victim advocacy and survivor services.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to Safe Harbor Crisis Center’s mission, values, and trauma-informed service approach.
  • Maintain professionalism, adaptability, and composure while managing crisis situations and competing priorities.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of the 40-hour Advocate Training after hire.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain and maintain certification as required.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation (BCI).
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and other case management or office software systems.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including after-hours, weekend, and holiday on-call shifts as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in social work, sociology, psychology, criminal justice, or a related social science field.
  • Experience providing direct social services and working with individuals in crisis.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence, sexual violence, human development, and child development.
  • Experience assisting with or filing protective orders as well as providing advocacy and survivor support during forensic examinations.
