A day in the life of the Community Engagement Specialist (CES):
Each day as a Community Engagement Specialist is dynamic and mission-driven, focused on growing and supporting Girl Scout membership in local communities. Your morning might begin by reviewing recruitment strategies and connecting with schools, community leaders, and partner organizations to plan outreach events. Midday could involve attending a school assembly or community fair, sharing the Girl Scout experience with potential members and volunteers. Afternoons might include meeting with troop leaders, offering guidance, training, and resources to ensure a high-quality experience for girls. Evenings may bring participation in volunteer meetings, recruitment events, or celebrations of member achievements. Throughout it all, you’ll track progress toward goals, foster strong relationships, and ensure Girl Scouting remains accessible and inclusive for all.
Job Accountabilities & Key Responsibilities
- Recruitment and Membership Growth involves developing data-driven outreach plans, engaging communities, attending events, aligning strategies with internal teams, and recruiting volunteers to expand Girl Scout participation.
- Member and Volunteer Support involves providing exceptional customer service, training, and resources to volunteers, ensuring a high-quality Girl Scout experience.
- Administration and Reporting includes supporting council events, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations, upholding Girl Scout values, and maintaining required reports.
- Inclusion & Diversity: Ensure that Girl Scouting remains inclusive and open to all girls and adults. Promote the values of inclusion and diversity in all outreach activities.
- Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Minimum 1-3 years’ experience in volunteer recruitment and management within non-profit organizations.
- Associate’s degree
- Computer proficiency including but not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite, customer management systems (Salesforce experience preferred), and social media.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with diverse people and communities.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate and manage difficult conversations with professionalism, empathy, and effective communication skills.
Skills:
- A commitment and passion for the Girl Scout mission and an ability to effectively promote and communicate the mission and vision of Girl Scouts to internal and external stakeholders
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including regularly working evenings and weekends.
- Ability to travel extensively through all jurisdictions of the Girl Scouts of Utah Council to attend meetings, events, training, etc.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels.
- Goal-oriented and results-driven, with experience working in diverse environments.
- Capable of receiving and implementing feedback effectively.
- Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective interdepartmental relationships.
- Proven ability to manage multiple and competing projects concurrently in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
- Collaborative, transparent, and inclusive work approach.
- Highly organized, ability to multitask, handle pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight, take initiative, and self-manage the workload.
- Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred, but not required
- Have daily access to dependable transportation, valid driver’s license, compliance with the council’s policy of automobile insurance limits, and a driving record that meets the requirements for coverage of the council’s business auto insurance carrier.
