Community Vision Technician
Pay Range: $16 - $18; (Pay commensurate with experience. Bilingual team members are eligible for higher rate of pay).
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide visual acuity and glaucoma screening at local screening events.
- Coordinate with staff and volunteers for equipment pick up and drop off.
- Answer phones and answer caller inquiries.
- Represent Friends for Sight at outreach and awareness events.
- Process applications for program eligibility and schedule appointments.
- Perform preliminary tests, including lensometry, autorefraction, tonometry, topography, OCT and visual fields.
- Support the optometrist during examination as needed.
- Assist with frame fitting, adjustments, and small repairs.
- Maintain accurate documentation.
- Encourage program participants to participate in surveys or leave reviews/comment on our public facing pages.
- Collaborate with team members, development and admin to implement program goals.
- Other duties relevant to this position may be assigned to you at any time.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent,
- Experience working with underserved populations and communities preferred,
- Ability to balance multiple tasks and switch between work settings,
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail,
- Excellent interpersonal and communications kills and skilled in establishing effective working relationships,
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team,
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and experience working with electronic medical records OR willingness to learn,
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods,

- 4-6 hour shifts,
- Mornings and/or afternoons,
- 3 to 5 day a week schedule,
- Some weekends (rare)
Work Model:
In person, main office, and in the community with some work from home for admin duties as schedule allows.

Organization Mission : Friends for Sight works passionately each day to save sight and change lives. We do this by providing free vision screenings, working to ensure that people of all ages and backgrounds have access to quality eye care, and disseminating information about eye safety, threats to vision, and available community resources.
We work in communities across Utah to increase early detection of vision issues in children and adults and brings eye exams and glasses to communities that need it most.
