Development and Grants Manager
Background
The National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome is seeking a passionate and experienced Development and Grants Manager to join our team. This role is pivotal in advancing our mission to prevent shaken baby syndrome/abusive head trauma and promote the well-being of infants through supporting and educating families, caregivers and professionals.
As the Development and Grants Manager, you will play a key role in our organization's growth and sustainability by leading efforts in fundraising, grant writing, and event planning. You will work closely with the executive team to identify funding opportunities, cultivate and maintain donor relationships, and manage grant applications and reporting. Additionally, you will be responsible for planning and executing events that support our mission and engage our community.

Position Description
- Cultivate relationships and secure funding from local and national agencies including private foundations, corporations, state and federal government agencies, and individuals to support a variety of research and non-research based programs and projects.
- Develop and form strategic partnerships and alliances with private and public agencies with the intent of raising support for shaken baby syndrome/abusive head trauma prevention programs and services locally and nationally.
- Supervise the expenditure of granted funds and submission of progress and final reports as required by grantors. This includes working with the agency’s financial department to ensure that appropriate processes are in place for monitoring and tracking grant-related revenues and costs.
- Coordinate, and as needed, serve as the project manager for projects that arise as a result of grants and contracts that have been awarded to the agency. This includes fiscal management of the project as well as logistical and general managerial oversight.
- Develop and oversee organizational events, such as bi-annual conferences and fundraising functions.
- Manage the stewardship and retention of all current and prospective donors including providing appropriate recognition and advocating for future investments.
Qualifications
- Bachelors’ degree in business, sales, communications, public relations or related field, and three years related experience required.
- Successful history of raising funds and/or generating sales for a variety of diverse and complex projects is desired.
- Experience writing and preparing technical and non-technical grant proposals is preferred. Candidates without grant writing experience but with exceptional writing skills will also be considered. Writing samples may be requested.
- History of managing diverse range of projects with track record of positive outcomes.
- Interest and availability to travel throughout the United States and other countries. Must have flexibility to travel to meetings as needed.
- Must be articulate and able to communicate clearly verbally and in writing with the public and professionals within and outside the field of child maltreatment. Public speaking experience is preferred.
- Financial management experience including development and oversight of program budgets, understanding complex financial statements, donor database management and basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- An outgoing, socially strong person is needed for this position. A person who enjoys meeting people, talking with people and participating in group situations.
- U.S. citizenship or legal right to work in the U.S.
Compensation
Salary $45,000 - $50,000 DOE. Full benefits package includes health and dental insurance, individual retirement account with 3% match, generous sick and vacation leave that increases with tenure and paid leave for 12 state and federally observed holidays.
