Development Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

The Development Coordinator is primarily responsible for managing the zoo’s donor database and ensuring the successful execution of paid donor experiences. This role supports the development stewardship program by sending prompt thank you letters and donor communications and actively participates in fundraising initiatives and Advancement events. The position operates within a collaborative team environment and contributes to a highly integrated development program.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports directly to the Director of Development. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Administration of Neon CRM the zoo’s donor database. Inputs all donations and generates timely acknowledgements and creates and manages letter series and custom letters. Trains fellow development staff on platform use and manages all donor accounts: updating contact information, notes, statuses, and merging duplicates
  2. Generates fundraising reports and collaborates with the Finance Department to ensure all donations reported are accurate
  3. Oversees on-site recognition efforts, such as pavers, boardwalk planks, benches and acts as the Liaison for the Maintenance and Grounds teams, submitting work orders and conducting follow-ups as needed
  4. Management and implementation of auction packages and experiences for fundraisers
  5. GoFundMe platform administrator which creates and manages the landing page for donations and ticketing for fundraising events, along with the backend reporting
  6. Coordinator and liaison (SSA, Grounds, Security, Guest Services, Education, and Animal Care) for VIP animal experiences 
  7. Aids in the management of fundraising events
  8. Aids in researching, writing, and reporting for grants
  9. Aids in securing sponsorship opportunities and implementing their deliverables as needed
  10. Aids in marketing content creation when it pertains to VIP events and opportunity guides
  11. Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED

  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with varied audiences: staff, Zoo guests and donors.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Ability to present information concisely and effectively.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Ability to work well under tight deadlines and under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a high standard of ethics in a confidential environment.
  • Possess a positive, winning attitude!
  • Flexible with hours, some evenings and weekends required.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE EXPECTATIONS 

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience with database management, donor customer service, research and analysis, and event planning and support.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION 

  • Utah’s Hogle Zoo is a drug-free workplace. All employees are subject to random drug testing.  
  • Provide a negative TB test prior to hire date and maintain TB testing through course of employment.  
  • A current driver’s license is required

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While much of the work takes place in a comfortable office environment, there are definite periods throughout the year when the job requires considerable physical effort. At times, you may find yourself lifting, moving, or setting up equipment and materials, which can be physically demanding. Beyond routine tasks like walking, standing, bending, and reaching, you’ll need good hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity to manage daily duties. Be prepared—especially during busy seasons or special events—to lift items up to 30 pounds and to be actively engaged in more strenuous activities as part of your role.
