Job Title: Development & Grants Manager*

Job Type: Full time, exempt

Location: Hybrid, with travel as needed and some mandatory weekly meetings in Salt Lake City, UT

Pay Range: $65,000 - $80,000*

Reports to: Emily Bell McCormick, President

*Open to discussing Director-level title and compensation for interested senior-level candidates.


Job Description: 

The Policy Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that acts as an accelerator for sound public policy through community education, grassroots organizing, relationships with community and state leadership, and the creation of public-private partnerships—taking both a top-down and bottom-up approach to do real good for real people. Our mission is to promote opportunity and dignity through thoughtful policy and the power of community. As a young and growing organization, we've achieved significant legislative wins in women's health, child poverty alleviation, food insecurity, and sexual abuse prevention. Currently, we're focusing on state-level policy in Utah, eager to expand our impact into areas like childcare, housing affordability, and other policies affecting working families' economic success.

The Development & Grants Manager will lead out in securing funding to support The Policy Project’s mission and programs. This position is responsible for managing grant research, writing, and reporting, as well as overseeing donor relationships and engagement and fundraising initiatives. The Development & Grants Manager will work closely with leadership to develop and implement a sustainable fundraising strategy, cultivate relationships with funders, and ensure effective stewardship of financial resources.

The ideal candidate is a strategic and detail-oriented professional who loves people and has experience in grant writing, fundraising, and donor relations. They should be a strong communicator with the ability to craft compelling proposals, analyze funding opportunities, and build relationships with philanthropic partners.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Grant Strategy & Oversight: Develop and execute a high-level grant acquisition strategy, identifying key funding opportunities aligned with the organization’s mission.
  • Proposal Development & Submission: Research, write, and submit compelling grant proposals for foundation, corporate, and government funding sources.
  • Donor Engagement & Stewardship: Cultivate and maintain relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors, ensuring consistent and meaningful engagement—including supporting the Executive Director in managing ongoing critical relationships with key donors.
  • Fundraising Strategy Implementation: Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan, including annual giving campaigns, donor recognition efforts, and major gift cultivation.
  • Event Fundraising: Plan and execute fundraising events, donor appreciation gatherings, and community giving initiatives.
  • Data & Reporting: Manage donor databases, track fundraising metrics, and prepare reports to assess progress and identify opportunities for growth.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with leadership, program staff, and the communications team to ensure fundraising efforts align with organizational priorities and messaging.
  • General Support: Assist with other development-related initiatives and special projects as assigned.    


Job Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, and development strategy or private industry equivalent. 
  • Proven success in securing major grants and donor contributions.
  • Strong network of philanthropic and funding contacts, preferably within Utah or nationally.
  • Exceptional writing, research, and communication skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to work independently and drive fundraising success.
  • Expertise in donor management software, grant databases, and CRM platforms.
  • Understanding of nonprofit financial management and grant compliance.
  • Background in corporate and foundation giving.
  • Demonstrated passion to inspire donors by connecting their contributions to tangible social impact and lasting community change.
