Additional Information

• This is a full-time, salaried leadership position

• The standard schedule is Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM–6:00 PM, with additional evening and weekend

hours required during productions, events, and community engagements

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY & CULTURE

On Pitch Performing Arts (OPPA!) – Layton, Utah

Position Type: Full-Time, Salaried

Reports To: Board of Directors (Co-Leadership Model)

Works Closely With: Education Director

Salary: $46,000-$52,000 DOE


POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Community & Culture is a senior leadership position responsible for

organizational alignment, external relationships, fundraising, audience development,

and the overall culture of OPPA!.

This role serves as one half of OPPA!’s co-leadership model, working in direct

partnership with the Education Director to ensure the organization operates in alignment

with its mission, values, and long-term strategy.

The Director of Community & Culture oversees key departments, leads growth

initiatives, builds community relationships, and serves as the final decision-maker for

cross-departmental and people-related matters. This role ensures that both the external

presence and internal culture of OPPA! are consistent, intentional, and sustainable.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Organizational Oversight

● Directly oversee:

○ Company Manager

○ Production Manager

○ Marketing (strategy and direction)

● Set organizational priorities and ensure alignment across departments

● Lead leadership meetings and cross-department communication

● Establish accountability systems and performance expectations

● Support and guide leadership decision-making across all areas


Community Relationships & External Partnerships

● Develop and maintain sponsor relationships

● Build partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and community leaders

● Represent OPPA! in civic engagement, chamber, and city relationships

● Identify and pursue new external opportunities for growth and visibility


Fundraising & Revenue Development (Non-Grant)

● Lead sponsorship strategy and development

● Build and maintain donor relationships and pipelines

● Oversee fundraising campaigns and revenue initiatives

● Ensure consistent donor stewardship and engagement systems


Special Events & Experiences

● Oversee major organizational events including:

○ Spotlight Celebration (Gala)

○ Broadway Concert Series

○ Community engagement events

● Define purpose, financial goals, and success metrics for each event

● Ensure events align with OPPA!’s brand, mission, and audience experience

● Evaluate and grow events year over year


Marketing & Brand Direction

● Define brand voice, tone, and messaging across all platforms

● Set campaign priorities and organizational messaging strategy

● Oversee major announcements and communication direction

● Provide strategic leadership to marketing staff while execution is handled by the

team


Audience Development & Patron Experience

● Lead audience growth and retention strategies

● Oversee patron journey and experience from first touchpoint to return

engagement

● Develop membership, loyalty, and engagement programs

● Analyze audience data and adjust strategies accordingly


Organizational Culture & Alignment

● Reinforce OPPA!’s mission, values, and expectations across all departments

● Support clear, consistent internal communication

● Address cross-department challenges and alignment issues

● Maintain a positive, accountable, and mission-driven organizational culture


Strategic Growth & Planning

● Lead long-term organizational planning

● Identify and develop new programs, partnerships, and expansion opportunities

● Evaluate organizational effectiveness and implement improvements

● Work with the Board and Company Manager on long-term sustainability


Conflict Resolution & Final Escalation

● Serve as the final escalation point for:

○ Staff conflicts

○ Cast and volunteer concerns

○ Parent and community issues

● Provide leadership in sensitive situations

● Ensure consistent and fair resolution aligned with OPPA!’s values


Programming & Season Leadership

● Lead the season selection process and committee

● Guide programming strategy in collaboration with leadership and the Board

● Ensure programming aligns with mission, audience, and financial goals


Final Organizational Authority

● Serve as final decision-maker on major operational and strategic issues

● Work in consultation with the Board on high-level decisions

● Provide final approval on:

○ Staffing decisions

○ Organizational initiatives

○ Strategic direction


QUALIFICATIONS

● Proven leadership experience in nonprofit, arts, or related field

● Strong ability to lead teams and drive organizational strategy

● Experience in fundraising, partnerships, or community engagement

● Demonstrated ability to manage multiple departments or large-scale initiatives

● Strong communication, relationship-building, and decision-making skills

● Experience working with or alongside a Board of Directors preferred

30 / 60 / 90 DAY SUCCESS PLAN

FIRST 30 DAYS: LEARN, ALIGN, AND BUILD TRUST

Primary Focus: Understanding the organization, people, systems, and current

operations

By Day 30, success looks like:

● Strong working relationship with Education Director and department leads

● Clear understanding of Company Manager, Production Manager, and Marketing

workflows

● Familiarity with current sponsors, donors, and partnerships

● Understanding of current fundraising efforts and event structures

● Review of marketing strategy, audience data, and attendance trends

● Observation of rehearsals, events, and patron experience

● Understanding of current challenges across departments

Key Win:

The Director is visible, informed, and building trust across leadership and staff


DAYS 31–60: ORGANIZE, LEAD, AND IMPLEMENT STRUCTURE

Primary Focus: Establishing leadership systems and beginning outward-facing work

By Day 60, success looks like:

● Leading leadership meetings and setting organizational priorities

● Establishing accountability systems and expectations across departments

● Beginning active outreach to sponsors and partners

● Developing a structured sponsorship and donor strategy

● Clarifying marketing direction and campaign priorities

● Implementing audience engagement and retention strategies

● Defining clear conflict resolution pathways

Key Win:

The organization feels more aligned, structured, and clearly led


DAYS 61–90: EXECUTE, EXPAND, AND OWN THE ROLE

Primary Focus: Driving growth, partnerships, and measurable outcomes

By Day 90, success looks like:

● Securing sponsorships and strengthening donor relationships

● Overseeing execution of major events and ensuring financial alignment

● Launching coordinated marketing campaigns tied to growth goals

● Demonstrating measurable progress in audience engagement and attendance

● Leading season selection and programming conversations

● Presenting strategic priorities and growth opportunities to the Board

● Acting as the clear final escalation point for organizational issues

Key Win:

The Director is operating as a confident organizational leader with systems,

relationships, and strategy in motion
