SUMMARY
As the Director of Development at WAS, you will be responsible for the vision, strategy, and execution of the organization’s fundraising events, corporate sponsorships, annual campaigns, and government partnerships according to established revenue goals. In this role you will also oversee the grant writing and communications functions. As a part of the senior staff at WAS, you will build diverse and meaningful partnerships grounded in WAS’s mission. The Director of Development will report to the Executive Director. You will join a team committed to creating access and belonging in the local community through their passion for skiing, biking, snowboarding, paddling, and more.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Resource Development
- Execute fundraising strategy and lead revenue generation for all fundraising events, corporate sponsorships, government partnerships, and annual campaigns
- Lead the strategy, planning and execution of fundraising events with the support of the Development Coordinator
- Elevate the donor experience and diversify WAS’ community of donors through innovative community engagement opportunities
- In collaboration with the Director of Major Gifts and Executive Director, create opportunities for major donor prospecting, cultivation, and stewardship
- Personally solicit donations and work collaboratively with leadership and board members to develop donor relationships
- Develop relationships and funding opportunities with city, county, and state municipalities
- Oversee a highly-effective grant making program led by the Grants Manager
- Collaborate with all WAS departments to align development efforts and organizational priorities
- Oversee well-organized, informative databases and systems that reflect industry best practices and maximize efficiency
- Develop performance metrics and make data-driven decisions
- Develop and manage the fundraising and communications budget and provide regular reports on fundraising progress, partner engagement, and revenue projections
- Support special projects or initiatives
Leadership
- Manage and coach development and communications personnel
- Determine development strategy and execute collaboratively with WAS development team and senior staff
- Co-lead the WAS Fundraising Committee
- Co-lead the board, staff, and committees’ roles in resource development
- Develop and maintain a culture of philanthropy at the board and staff levels
- Steward WAS culture and values
Marketing / Communications
- Oversee the writing, design, production, and distribution of communications and marketing content as it pertains to fundraising
- Manage consistency in mission-aligned messaging across communications/ fundraising departments
- Establish a strong organizational presence within the community
Other
- Additional responsibilities as assigned
WHAT YOU NEED TO GET THE JOB DONE
- A passion for making outdoor recreation more inclusive and accessible
- Three or more years of professional experience in nonprofit sector fundraising with demonstrated success at the director level
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising goals and driving revenue growth through events and sponsorship opportunities
- Experience with nonprofit fundraising/ financial best practices and data management
- Strong leadership skills and experience managing a highly effective development team
- A high affinity for event planning and execution
- Demonstrated success leading the direct solicitation of donors
- Very strong organizational and time management skills including the ability to successfully manage multiple prospects, and requests, and meet competing deadlines
- Exceptional communication skills
- Strong ability to think strategically, develop plans, and execute while collaborating with a team
- Experience with Bloomerang, GiveSmart, or other donor and event databases
- Must be competent in GSuite, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat
- Strong commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
- Must be at least 21 years of age
WORK SCHEDULE
- 40 hours per week Monday- Friday, some evenings and weekends necessary
- Office locations vary between a Murray, UT office location and Snowbird Resort
- Occasional local travel is required
- Salaried, exempt position
