Position Summary

The Director of Philanthropy provides strategic and operational leadership for CNS's philanthropy program, driving growth across major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, and grant strategy in support of CNS's mission. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt hybrid position based in Salt Lake City, UT.

What You'll Do

As the Director of Philanthropy, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and execute CNS's comprehensive philanthropy strategy — spanning annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, and grant funding — aligned with CNS's mission and strategic priorities
  • Build, manage, and personally cultivate a portfolio of major donor relationships, leading solicitation and stewardship efforts for significant gifts
  • Provide day-to-day leadership for the Philanthropy department, including, coaching, and development of the Philanthropy Manager and department staff
  • Coordination with team of CNS's flagship fundraising event, Art & Soup Charity Event
  • Set strategic direction for grant funding, overseeing proposal development, funder relationships, and compliance tracking led by department staff
  • Oversee strategic use and integrity of the donor database (Raiser's Edge or equivalent), ensuring data supports effective cultivation, stewardship, and reporting
  • Represent CNS at community events, philanthropic functions, and donor engagements as a mission-driven ambassador for the organization
  • Partner with the Marketing team to develop donor communications, impact reporting, and storytelling that advance fundraising goals
  • Ensure all fundraising activities comply with applicable legal, ethical, and regulatory standards

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Public Health, Business, or a related field required
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit fundraising, philanthropy, or development, including major gift and/or planned giving experience
  • Demonstrated, successful track record of cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors
  • Experience with donor management software; Raiser's Edge experience strongly preferred
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong strategic planning, project management, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Genuine commitment to CNS's mission of compassionate, community-based care

Preferred:

  • Experience in healthcare, home health, or hospice philanthropy
  • Experience leading or contributing to capital campaigns
  • Familiarity with Art & Soup or similar community fundraising events
  • Knowledge of the healthcare nonprofit funding landscape in Utah

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $75,000–$100,000 annually, commensurate with experience

CNS offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive full-time benefits package, including:

  • Accrued vacation time up to 80 hours
  • Accrued sick time up to 56 hours
  • 7 paid major holidays, including Pioneer Day (paid at 8 hours per holiday)
  • Accrued floating holidays up to 24 hours
  • Annual continuing education benefit of $750.00
  • $1,500 per year in qualified tuition reimbursement
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance (eligible after 30 days from your first full month of employment)
  • 403(b) retirement plan with company match (must be employed through 12/31 and work 1,000+ hours)
  • Optional life insurance and flexible spending account
  • Performance-based bonus eligibility
