Disability Specialist
Summary:
Our organization, Ogden Weber Community Action Partnership (OWCAP), is searching for a Disability Specialist to support, coordinate, and ensure high quality and effective services are provided to children and families with disabilities in our program. You will rely on your natural relationship-building skills as you collaborate with other specialists and/or supervisors to ensure appropriate integration of services for families. As our highly detailed Disability Specialist, you will support children and families with disabilities, while also supporting our staff in individualizing services to ensure each family receives the services they need.
What you’ll need to be our Disability Specialist:
- Congenial and cooperative with an efficient, precise work ethic
- A highly precise worker, with a strong adherence to established guidelines
- Detailed and conservative, with a preference for high quality and technical expertise
- Bachelor degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education or related field
- Two year’s experience working in disabilities and/or mental health
- Experience working with children with special needs or disability services for young children and securing and individualizing needed services for children with disabilities

What you’ll do as the Disability Specialist:
Review and complete all referrals and follow up services for disabilities in a timely manner through coordination with LEAs.
Enter data for children’s and families’ disabilities case management into tracking system in a timely manner.
Track and provide input on current MOU with community partners and LEA’s.
Provide training and information to parents and staff with training on advocacy, IDEA and community resources relating to disabilities and maintain supporting documentation.
Support staff how to individualize services for children with confirmed and suspected disabilities and how to incorporate the IFSP and IEP requirements.
Train staff how to administer the developmental screener.
Obtain parent permission and encourage parent involvement in the referral process.
Collaborate with parents and local agencies to ensure appropriate transitions and seamless services for children with IFSP and IEP.
Maintain appropriate documentation and track all data related to the delivery of services to children with special needs. Ensure that documentation is accurate and maintained in accordance with policies.
Provide support, communication, coaching, training, observations and feedback in the classroom for teaching staff who service children with suspected disabilities, including children eligible for services under IDEA.
Develop, implement and monitor an on-going disability service work plan in ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and other rules and regulations as they pertain to disabilities.
Collaborate and communicate with other specialists and/or supervisors to ensure integration of services.
