DIY Festival Production Lead

Reports to: Production Manager


Craft Lake City is seeking a DIY Festival Production Lead to serve as a bridge between the Production Assistants and the Production Manager. The Production Lead plays a hands-on supervisory role during the setup, operation, and teardown of the Craft Lake City DIY Festival. This individual is responsible for coordinating day-to-day tasks on the ground, keeping crew members focused and on schedule, and escalating issues to the Production Manager as needed. The Production Lead is expected to be a calm, clear-communicating presence who can balance physical production work with team oversight.


This is a contract, festival-specific position. The Production Lead must be on-site for all key production dates, including August 7–9, 2026, with additional preparation shifts in the 2–4 weeks prior to the festival and wrap days immediately following. Long hours, high temperatures, and physically demanding conditions are to be expected and embraced.



Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of event production or live event experience

• Previous supervisory or crew lead experience in a fast-paced environment

• Experience working in extreme heat and/or outdoor festival conditions

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead by example

• Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities

• Ability to give clear, concise direction to a diverse team of crew members

• Comfortable with physical, hands-on work as well as oversight and coordination

• Solid problem-solving skills — the ability to triage issues quickly and calmly

• Honest, accountable, and willing to take ownership of mistakes

• A genuine team-first mentality with no room for ego on the production floor

• Adaptable to the realities of nonprofit festival production

• Ability to manage crowd flow and maintain safety on the event footprint

• Must be friendly, approachable, and attentive to both crew and Festival patrons

• Must be able to lift and carry 25–50 lbs and perform hands-on physical labor

• Must be able to stand for 12+ hours a day and walk 10 or more miles daily

• Must be able to endure summer temperatures of 90 degrees and above


Responsibilities

• Supervise and support Production Assistants during setup, Festival days, and teardown

• Communicate daily priorities, assignments, and schedule changes to crew members

• Monitor crew performance and provide real-time coaching and redirection as needed

• Serve as the first point of escalation for on-site issues before reaching the Production

Manager

• Conduct pre-shift briefings and end-of-day wrap-ups with the crew

• Assist the Production Manager with logistics planning and site walkthroughs

• Maintain accurate records of task completion, incidents, and inventory during the event

• Support volunteer coordination as needed in collaboration with the Festival team


Requirements

• Must attend all scheduled staff and production meetings

• Must be available for the full Festival week, August 7–9, 2026

• Must be available for preparation shifts in the 2–4 weeks prior to the Festival

• Must be available for wrap and inventory shifts in the days immediately following the

Festival
