Position Purpose
The Donor Engagement Manager connects generous community members to YWCA Utah’s mission by building meaningful relationships, creating exceptional donor experiences, and supporting the organization’s fundraising strategy. This role ensures donors feel valued, inspired, and engaged—through personalized stewardship, cultivation opportunities, and strategic support for fundraising efforts—helping sustain YWCA Utah’s critical programs and long-term impact.
Position Summary
The Donor Engagement Manager is a strategic and donor-facing role that strengthens YWCA Utah’s fundraising program by managing a portfolio of donors, leading stewardship and cultivation initiatives, and ensuring accurate data and communications. This role partners closely with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and development team to advance donor engagement and major gifts strategy. The Donor Engagement Manager also collaborates with the Senior Marketing & Engagement Manager on sponsorships and donor experiences, as well as on donor-focused communications and appeals.
Essential Job functions
Donor Cultivation & Stewardship
- Manage a portfolio of current and prospective donors at the mid-to-major giving level, tracking engagement, giving history, and next steps.
- Coordinate and host donor cultivation and stewardship opportunities (e.g., salons, small-group gatherings, personalized experiences).
- Ensure donors are thanked and stewarded in a timely, meaningful, and consistent way, including managing acknowledgment letters, thank-you calls, and other recognition.
Event & Sponsorship Support
- Collaborate with the Senior Marketing & Engagement Manager to support donor-related aspects of YWCA Utah’s fundraising events.
- Manage sponsorship solicitation, fulfillment, recognition, and stewardship before, during, and after events.
- Ensure that donors and sponsors have a high-quality experience at events and are integrated into ongoing cultivation strategies.
Major Gifts & Fundraising Strategy
- Provide strategic support to the CDO and CEO in developing and executing donor cultivation and solicitation strategies.
- Conduct donor research in DonorSearch and prepare profiles, briefing materials, and recommendations for leadership and board engagement.
- Track donor moves management and progress toward fundraising goals in Raiser’s Edge CRM.
- Partner with leadership to strengthen major donor pipelines and align cultivation strategies with organizational priorities.
Database & Donor Communications
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records, ensuring donor interactions are logged and moves management is tracked.
- Lead development on donor-tailored communications, including appeals, targeted solicitations, and stewardship campaigns.
- Use donor data to evaluate strategies, measure results, and inform decision-making.
Competencies & Essential Skills:
- Strategic Fundraising: Strong understanding of donor pipelines, cultivation, and stewardship best practices.
- Relationship Building: Skilled at building authentic connections with a wide range of donors, board members, and community partners.
- Communication Excellence: Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to create compelling donor materials and represent YWCA in public settings.
- Organization & Follow-Through: Highly detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and donor touchpoints.
- Collaboration: Works effectively across teams, supporting leadership, events, and marketing functions.
- Flexibility: Comfortable working independently and as part of a team; willing to work occasional evenings/weekends.
- Commitment to Equity: Deep alignment with YWCA’s mission and commitment to anti-racism and gender equity.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of fundraising, donor relations, or related experience.
- Demonstrated success in donor cultivation and stewardship, including managing a donor portfolio.
- Experience coordinating donor engagement events and/or sponsorships.
- Familiarity with donor databases (Raiser’s Edge preferred).
- Excellent interpersonal, writing, and project management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to utilize AI
- Ability to work scheduled hours on a regular basis; some evenings and weekends required.
- Valid Utah driver’s license, automobile access, and valid auto insurance if driving on business.
Physical/Sensory Demands
Work is generally performed in a safe and comfortable office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: sit for long periods of time; use computer to enter data; use telephone to converse with customers and employees; walk and stand for long periods of time; perform repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement. Travel to attend conferences, training, outreach and other events occurs routinely. Rarely required to lift up to 30 lbs.
