About Women of the World
Women of the World (WoW) is a Salt Lake City nonprofit with fifteen years of experience empowering forcibly displaced women to achieve self-reliance, economic success, and a voice in their community. WoW serves women from more than 35 countries regardless of immigration status, providing individualized case management, English language education, job training, career placement, legal navigation, health advocacy, and community building. WoW partners with more than 200 local organizations and has served over 2,000 clients and 6,400 family members since its founding.
WoW's English education program is central to nearly every pathway to self-reliance we support. Clients who gain English proficiency are more employable, more able to navigate health care and education systems, and more capable of advocating for themselves and their families.
Position Overview
The English Program Analyst VISTA will spend one year conducting the foundational research, assessment, and design work needed to transform WoW's English education programming. The VISTA will work across two parallel initiatives: strengthening WoW's tiered English language learning pathway and supporting the development of a job-specific English training framework for women seeking employment in accessible sectors. This is a capacity-building role focused on research, analysis, curriculum framework development, and volunteer pipeline creation. The systems and tools built during Year 1 will guide two additional years of curriculum development and program implementation by subsequent VISTA members.
Primary Responsibilities
Tiered English Learning Pathway
- Review existing English program materials, lesson plans, workflows, and processes
- Conduct focus groups, interviews, and surveys with current and former students, program staff, volunteers, and clients not currently enrolled to assess program strengths and gaps
- Research comparable English programs serving similar demographics to identify effective structures and strategies adaptable to WoW's context
- Define a standardized progression pathway from beginner conversation through Intensive English readiness, including entry benchmarks and advancement criteria
- Produce a written program assessment report and curriculum frameworks outlining scope, sequence, and learning objectives for each program level
- Evaluate and revise WoW's current proficiency assessment tool, pilot it with a small student group, and document finalized administration procedures for program staff
Job-Specific English Training Initiative
- Research WoW's current practices for serving job-seeking clients with low English proficiency through staff observation and case manager consultation
- Conduct employer outreach to identify vocabulary, safety language, and workplace communication skills required for entry-level positions in sectors including housekeeping, kitchen crew, and custodial work
- Gather direct input from WoW clients seeking employment to understand their workplace English learning needs and employment goals
- Analyze job postings in targeted sectors to identify recurring language demands
- Collaborate with the Economic Empowerment Coordinator and EEP Case Managers to align framework content with current employer partnerships and job placement data
- Produce a job-specific curriculum framework outlining scope, sequence, learning objectives, and key vocabulary domains for at least two employment sectors
Volunteer Pipeline Development
- Research how current and prospective volunteers can be utilized to deliver the curriculum developed in Years 1 and 2
- Identify and recruit prospective volunteers through WoW's existing volunteer base, university partnerships, and community networks, prioritizing bilingual and bicultural candidates
- Conduct initial volunteer orientation sessions and record volunteer information, orientation dates, and assigned areas in Salesforce
AmeriCorps VISTA Member Benefits
- Living allowance (paid bi-weekly)
- Choice of Segal AmeriCorps Education Award ($7,395) or end-of-service cash stipend upon successful completion
- Health coverage
- Relocation allowance (if applicable)
- Childcare assistance if eligible
- Forbearance on qualifying student loans during service
- Access to professional development, training, and WoW organizational events
- Dedicated workspace, computer, phone, and all necessary materials provided by WoW
- Full integration into the WoW team, including all-staff meetings and organizational activities
Required Qualifications
- Strong written communication and organizational skills, including ability to produce clear curriculum frameworks, needs assessments, and training materials
- Strong research and analytical skills, with ability to synthesize findings from multiple sources into actionable recommendations
- Experience with or genuine interest in pedagogy, adult education, or curriculum development
- Proficiency with content creation and productivity tools such as Google Workspace or Canva, with ability to develop clear and accessible materials
- Empathy, cultural humility, and a commitment to working with diverse, multilingual communities
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple concurrent deliverables, and meet project milestones
- U.S. citizen, national, or legal resident, 18 years of age or older
- Ability to successfully complete a national service criminal history check
Preferred Qualifications

- Experience designing volunteer training programs, facilitation guides, or instructional materials
- Experience working with refugee, immigrant, or other forcibly displaced populations

- Bilingual or multilingual candidates encouraged to apply; fluency in a language spoken by WoW's client community is a plus
- Familiarity with Salesforce or other client tracking systems
- Knowledge of the Salt Lake County nonprofit and community services landscape
Personal Qualities
- Collaborative, with comfort engaging across multiple program areas and with diverse staff, volunteers, and community members
- Self-directed and comfortable working in an environment where systems and structures are still being built
