Executive Director
Introduction
Are you passionate about recycling and sustainability and looking for a way to make a difference in the community? The Utah Recycling Alliance (URA), a small non-profit dedicated to empowering people, organizations, and communities across the state of Utah to create a zero-waste lifestyle, is seeking a talented Utah professional to help our organization grow. This flexible, part-time (up to 30 hours/week) position will serve a vital role in building successful programs that promote reuse, recycling, and resource conservation.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the President of the URA Board of Directors, the Executive Director will provide strategic direction and leadership through fundraising, grant administration, programming leadership, and more. The area of responsibility for this role is wide and calls for flexibility and willingness to work autonomously with good time management. Ultimately, the Director will ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the URA and improve the organization and the programs therein.
The Executive Director will oversee the administration of the URA sub-award of Salt Lake City’s EPA grant, ensuring that URA meets all programmatic and reporting deadlines. The Director will work with the URA Fundraising Committee to lead fundraising efforts to meet or exceed URA financial goals, including grant writing and submission, solicitation of corporate and foundation sponsorships and donations, hosting fundraising events, and identifying new funding streams. The Director will also work under the URA Board President and in conjunction with URA committees to plan, organize, and facilitate key initiatives and programs, including those outlined in grant requirements. The grant programs include: CHaRM, Fix-it Clinics, Trash Talks and Single Collection Events. Note that some events may be held on the weekend or evenings. This person will attend board and committee meetings, lead communication efforts, and represent the URA in the community, building relationships with government, non-profit and activists/advocacy sectors.
The Director will also have key management responsibilities in collaboration with the URA Board of Directors, such as maintaining the organization’s 501(c)(3) status, assisting with budget planning and utilization, hiring and managing an intern/part-time position, and other responsibilities required by the URA board. To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate should have the following background:
• A passion for environmental issues and community education and outreach
• Bachelor’s degree and experience in non-profit and/or environmental field preferred
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work autonomously
• Familiarity with grant writing/administration and fundraising desired
• Experience in website development, maintenance, data reporting and social media networking.
• Must be available to work some evenings and weekends, as well as minimal travel. Must have personal transportation and proof of Auto Insurance.
• Must be able to provide phone, transportation, and workspace. Work Computer will be provided.
Compensation:
This is a part-time position with the opportunity to work for up to 30 hours per week. The compensation for the position is $29.00 per hour. Success in grant writing, fundraising and performance correlates to increased compensation opportunity.
Please note that this position is grant-funded with funding for the position guaranteed through May 2027. Employment in this position beyond that time is subject to the renewal of existing grants or the writing and receiving of additional grants and fundraising.
