Full-Time Staff Attorney

Wasatch Immigration Project (WIP), a Park City non-profit providing high quality, pro bono immigration legal services, with a focus on clients living in the Wasatch Back, is hiring a full-time staff attorney to help us better reach our mission to:

Provide accessible legal advice, representation, and education to individuals and families in the greater Wasatch Back community who are navigating the immigration system, so that they can make informed decisions, pursue legal protections, and seek stable futures.

Job Description: Candidates should be capable of assisting WIP with:

- Providing expert legal advice and representation in immigration law;

- Drafting legal documents including applications, pleadings, and briefs;

- Representing clients in court, appeals, interviews, and other immigration proceedings;

- Conducting legal research and staying updated on relevant laws, regulations, caselaw, and other relevant precedents;

- Managing caseload efficiently and data input effectively, ensuring timely progression and resolution of matters;

- Communicating effectively and compassionately with clients and potential clients, providing clear explanations and regular updates on case progress;

- Collaborating with colleagues to develop strategies and solutions for complex legal issues;

- Collaborating with community partners and with local, state, and national immigration law organizations; and

- Maintaining high ethical standards and complying with all professional standards and legal obligations.

Job Details:

- Full-time, exempt, and salaried.

- Salary range of $70,000 - $100,000, based on experience.

- Position is primarily office-based, with flexibility on remote working.

Required Job Qualifications:

- J.D. from accredited law school.

- Membership in a bar of any state (UT bar membership is preferred, but not required).

- At least two years’ experience in immigration law.

- Articulable interest in WIP’s mission.

- Strong research, writing, oral communication, and time-management skills.

- Strategic, creative problem-solver.

- Able to work independently and as part of a team.

- Able to work some late afternoons/early evenings and occasional weekend days, with the option of flexing time as needed.

- Enthusiastic about and committed to working with people from diverse cultural, educational, professional, and socioeconomic backgrounds, with an articulable commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

- Willing to submit to full criminal background check.

Desired Job Qualifications:

- Strong preference and additional compensation for candidates who are fluent in Spanish.

- Strong preference for candidates with experience in immigration court, including representing individuals in immigration detention.

- Preference for candidates who have previously worked directly with immigrant and/or refugee populations.

- Preference for experience working with survivors of domestic violence survivors and/or other trauma and/or with child dependency issues.

- Strong presentation skills for community outreach, education, and training.
