Grant Writer
JOB TITLE: Grant Writer (1099 independent contractor), part-time, non-exempt (hourly)
HOURS: 10-20 hours per week and may choose their working hours, as long as the deadlines are met. In most cases, work independently from home.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Executive Director
WAGES & BENEFITS: Hourly rate within this range: $30-35/hour, as agreed upon at time of hire.
JOB SUMMARY:
Grant writers may work on several projects at once under tight deadlines. Government policies and online submission processes change frequently. The availability of funding also fluctuates, so grant writers must develop a diversified network of funding organizations. The Grant Writer is responsible for researching, writing and coordinating the grant application process, managing proposals and maintaining a donor database.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties include:
1) Writing high-quality grant proposal narratives, applications, and supporting documents,
2) Researching, collecting data, and writing each grant,
3) Working with the Executive Director to compile financials and data,
4) Managing the proposal submission process to ensure timely submission of all required materials,
5) Developing and maintaining a proposal calendar,
6) Coordinating and following up on the progress of submitted proposals,
7) Developing an annual grants strategy,
8) Conducting prospect research to identify, cultivate and solicit new grants,
9) Performing other duties, as assigned, which may include some office work, possibly working with an executive committee, planning fundraising campaigns, and promoting the organization through public relations work,

SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor’s Degree in communications, English, professional writing, or a similar major required.
* A minimum of 2 years of experience in research and grant writing; non-profit experience preferred.
* Demonstrated ability to write successful grant proposals.
* Knowledge of Utah area foundations and corporations.
* Must have the ability to communicate effectively.
* Clear, precise, and compelling writing skills.
* Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint), Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Publisher, and basic computer skills. Knowledge of Panorama CRM system is preferred.
* Excellent organizational skills required.
* Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently with purpose and accuracy.
* Detail-oriented, organized, deadline-driven.

- Aptitudes: Professional appearance and professional verbal/written communication. Ability to organize, work well in both a structured and non-structured environment, attention to detail, able to work without supervision, ability to see what needs to be done and do it, be prompt.
- Temperament: Friendly, independent, dependable, adaptable, able to multitask as well as work calmly in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility: Be able to work and build relationships with existing and potential donors.
