Job Title: Grant Writer
Organization: Friends for Sight
Location: Hybrid (at least 1 day in office/week)
Pay: $20.00/hour
Schedule: Part-time approximately 20 hours per week or more depending on the need.


About Friends for Sight

Friends for Sight is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that everyone—regardless of income, language, or background—has access to quality vision care. We partner with communities, schools, and volunteer providers to deliver screenings, eye exams, and prescription glasses across Utah.

Position Summary

The Grant Writer plays a key role in supporting the sustainability and growth of Friends for Sight by leading grant writing and submission efforts. This position owns the day-to-day execution of the grant pipeline, including researching opportunities, developing proposals, and managing deadlines.

This role is ideal for someone who can work independently, write compelling proposals with minimal oversight, and partner with program staff to translate community-based work into strong funding opportunities. While this position contributes to identifying funding opportunities and improving processes, it does not carry full responsibility for organizational fundraising strategy.


Key Responsibilities

  • Research, identify, and prioritize prospective foundation and corporate funders aligned with Friends for Sight’s mission
  • Write, edit, and submit high-quality grant proposals for general operating support and program initiatives
  • Manage the full grant calendar, including deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements
  • Collaborate with program staff to gather information and clearly articulate program goals, outcomes, and impact
  • Maintain accurate records of grant activity, submissions, and outcomes in internal systems (Salesforce)
  • Prepare brief, regular updates on grant activity and pipeline status for the Executive Director
  • Support grant reporting and stewardship, ensuring timely and accurate submissions
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of grant templates, language, and processes


Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of grant writing or nonprofit development experience
  • Demonstrated ability to write successful, compelling grant proposals
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines independently
  • Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources into clear, concise narratives
  • Experience with CRM systems or grant tracking tools (Salesforce experience a plus)
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through
  • Alignment with Friends for Sight’s mission and community-centered values
