Grants Manager
Since 1991, the Utah Microloan Fund (UMLF) has helped Utah entrepreneurs who face barriers to traditional financing start and grow their businesses. We provide microloans, business education, and one-on-one advising across the state.
We’re hiring a Grants Manager to secure funding for this work and build lasting relationships with banks, foundations, corporations, and government funders. You’ll manage the full grant process, from identifying new opportunities and writing proposals to reporting on results and pursuing renewals. You’ll work closely with our lending, finance, and program teams to show funders what their support makes possible for Utah business owners.
What you’ll do
- Research funding opportunities, keep an active list of prospects, and recommend which opportunities UMLF should pursue.
- Write and submit grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funder reports. Track deadlines, grant commitments, and renewals.
- Build and maintain relationships with funders, including bank Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) officers and community development teams.
- Work with staff to develop grant budgets, gather program results, and share client stories in proposals and reports.
- Represent UMLF at funder meetings, banking events, and community development gatherings.
- Improve how we track grants, maintain funder records, and stay in touch with funding partners.
What you’ll bring
- At least five years of experience in nonprofit development, institutional fundraising, grant writing, or a related field.
- A track record of independently writing successful proposals and managing grants through reporting and renewal.
- Experience building relationships with foundations, banks, corporations, government agencies, or other institutional funders.
- Strong writing, editing, and research skills, including the ability to explain budgets and program results clearly.
- The ability to manage multiple proposals, reports, and funder relationships while meeting deadlines.
- Experience using prospect research databases, grant management systems, or CRMs.
- A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), especially working with bank partners on community development funding.
- Experience with a community development financial institution (CDFI), community lender, or economic development organization.
- Relationships in Utah’s banking, philanthropic, nonprofit, or economic development communities.
- Familiarity with Candid, Grant Advance, or similar prospect research tools.
