Job Summary 

Family Motel Case Manager will provide trauma-informed, guest-driven case management services to individuals who are placed in our motel program with the goal of helping them achieve stable housing solutions quickly and efficiently.  

The services provided include engaging with individuals in our motel program and connecting them with resources in the community that will aid in their transition into housing. Family Motel Case Manager will work with those enrolled in our motel program to identify common barriers faced by them and help with establishing strategies and procedures for addressing needs on a shelter-wide scale. They will also be responsible for managing several different administrative responsibilities related to the motel program. This position may also be required to case manage individuals after they exit the motel program and return to shelter.

Motel Coordinator   

  • Coordinate with multiple departments to evaluate which families are best fit for motel placement. 
  • Recruit new motel vendors and serve as main point of contact for motel management teams. 
  • Assist in financial tracking of motel placement budget. 
  • Coordinate all aspects of moves to and from motels, including staff scheduling and transportation. 
  • Provide regular spending and family progress reports to management. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Housing First 

  • Help individuals experiencing homelessness get into housing.  
  • Assist guests in identifying barriers and connect them with appropriate resources in the community.  
  • Celebrating and assisting our guests and their belongings move into their new homes.  
  • Use agency vehicles to provide transportation for guests in their pursuit of housing.  
  • Strong belief of the Housing First model. Willingness to initiate and have ongoing conversations with guests about housing. 

Managing a Case Load 

  • Assisting our diverse population of guests on your set caseload to establish goals.  
  • Engage with all guests to connect them with resources and housing options.  
  • Follow agency guidelines to create healthy boundaries with guests.  
  • Daily collaboration with all departments promoting a healthy team environment.   
  • Seeking out, engaging, and networking with community partners to find housing options and additional resources.  
  • Attend daily open office hours as a team to interact and provide guests with resources to further their housing goals.   
  • Attended weekly team meetings and contribute to case conferencing conversations.  
  • Keep accurate records, case management notes, and statistical data as required and participate in special projects as needed. 

Crisis Management 

  • Provide direct, trauma-informed case management services to guests, including crisis intervention, harm reduction, outreach, ongoing assessments, goal setting, creative problem solving, using a network of community resources.   
  • Utilizing the training we provide to jump into high stress situations in an effective and trauma-informed way  
  • Assist with de-escalation and crisis intervention with guests in crisis.  
  • Collaborate with the crisis clinician and others to find ways to support individuals with mental and behavioral health barriers.  
  • Ability to accept direction and constructive feedback from Supervisor.  
  • Ability to set and maintain good boundaries, using Trauma-Informed Care as a guideline.

  • Ability to contribute to the Agency's commitment to enhancing awareness and appreciation of diverse ethnic and cultural heritages.    
  • Willingness to understand that housing first, harm reduction, low barrier access to resources is best practice and essential to our mission at The Road Home.

Education and Experience 

  • Lived, work or volunteer experience preferred or a degree in a related field  
  • Experience working or volunteering with diverse populations  

Required Skills and Abilities 

  • Excellent writing and documentation skills. 
  • Willing to be a proactive member of a team. 
  • Ability to work with community partners. 
  • Self-starter and self-directed. 
  • Ability to accept direction from Supervisor. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong computer skills. 
  • Ability to work from a Trauma-Informed Care framework.  
  • Familiarity with the Housing First philosophy.  
  • Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse populations. Ability to contribute to the agency’s commitment to enhancing awareness and appreciation of diverse ethnic and cultural heritages.  
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen. 

Physical and Equipment Requirements 

  • Ability to lift 15 pounds.  
  • Ability to sit, stand and walk for at least an hour at a time. 
  • Ability to drive a vehicle.
