Part-Time Veterinarian (HQHVSN/General Surgeon)


We’re Nuzzles & Co, a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) no-kill organization located in Summit County, Utah. In 1990, a group of volunteers founded our organization to find homes for animals in need. Since then, we have found homes for nearly 30,000 pets. Our mission is to protect animals — to provide a loving, nurturing place where they can get healthy and learn positive behaviors and then to find loving homes for each one of them. 


The perfect candidate would:

Perform sterilization surgeries on all cats and dogs in a high-quality/high-volume setting

Perform other surgical procedures (enucleations, amputations, abdominal exploratories, dentistries, etc.) as needed to improve the quality of life of an animal

Provide exceptional medical care for cats and dogs in our shelter and for community members’ pets

Perform diagnostic procedures including, but not limited to, interpreting radiographs and laboratory results if needed prior to or after surgery

See post-op patients if needed for surgical follow-up

Uphold the highest standards of professionalism


Other skills we are looking for:

Compassion and understanding towards pet owners who may be facing financial hardships

Understand the access-to-care model of providing veterinary services for community members who may have trouble accessing veterinary care due to financial or transportation barriers

Knowledge of shelter medicine and best practices in animal sheltering, including ASV guidelines.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients, volunteers and other employees of the organization.

Ability to perform well under stress in an emotional and fast paced environment. 

Ability to work cooperatively with others, with a sense of humor, even when it gets busy.

Acquire and possess a thorough understanding of and dedication to the philosophies of animal welfare and rescue.

Commitment to staying current on new medical information and changes within the profession.


Required Education, Certification and Licensing, and Experience:

Graduate of an accredited school of veterinary medicine; Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD) or equivalent required.

Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Utah. 

Additional training in shelter medicine (i.e. graduate certificate, board certification) a bonus.

Experience in shelter medicine or high-volume spay/neuter preferred.


Benefits:

This is a contracted position with an hourly rate of $70/hour

Flexible time off granted with advance notice

At-cost medical care for employee’s pets


Scheduling/Hours

Work onsite at the veterinary medical suite located inside our adoption center location at Junction Commons in Park City for 9 to 27 hours per week ( ie. 9:00 am to 5:30pm 1 to 3 days per week) with support of 2 to 3 technicians and an administrative assistant.
