Kids' Area Coordinator - DIY Festival

Reports to: Artisan & Programs Manager
Overview: Craft Lake City’s DIY Festival Kids’ Area Coordinator is responsible for programming the Kids’ Area to ensure a fun, creative and educational experience for kids and families during the DIY Festival. This team member is passionate about youth arts education, and is creative, collaborative, friendly, leadership-driven and organized.
This is a contract, festival-specific position with a commitment of working August 8-10, 2025, with additional preparation shifts in the 4-6 weeks prior to the festival and the days immediately following the festival. The DIY Festival Kids’ Area Coordinator is required to be onsite for the duration of the DIY Fest, so working long hours in potentially extreme heat are factors to consider and keep in mind when applying for this position.
Responsibilities:
- Create a plan for decor in the Kids’ Area and work with volunteers to make the decorations
- Work with CLC’s Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, train and manage volunteers for the Kids’ Area
- Collaborate with the DIY Festival Inventory Manager to determine what supplies and tools will be needed in the Kids’ Area
- Create and execute a safety plan for managing the bounce house and other entertainment in Kids’ Area, including recruiting contractors/volunteers to ensure coverage of all Kid’s Area activities.
- Manage all aspects of the Kids’ Area during the DIY Festival, including setup, breakdown, and assisting volunteers and staff as needed
- Work with Kids’ Area Sponsor to ensure their promotion and participation goals are met
Qualifications:
- Previous management experience
- Experience working with children of all ages, in art education, and/or family programming preferred
- Event coordination and crowd management experience desired
- Well-versed in creating and managing a budget
- Superb customer service skills
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Effective communicator with a collaborative work style
- Adaptable and flexible in a nonprofit, event-driven environment
- Ability to access email 2–3 times a day and respond in a timely manner
- Proficient with Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.
- Must be able to lift 25-50 lbs
- Must be able to stand on their feet for upwards of 10 hours a day
- Must be able to endure summer temperatures of 90 degrees and above
Requirements:
- Part-time, seasonal contract position
- Ability to work in-house at the CLC offices 5-10 hours per week May/June
- Must own laptop and cellphone, with willingness to use for Craft Lake City tasks
- Reliable transportation with willingness to use for Craft Lake City tasks
- Available to work increased hours in the summer, June-August, leading up to the DIY Festival
- Committed to working the DIY Festival weekend, August 12-14, 2022, as well as additional hours for setup and breakdown
- Must attend all required staff meetings and trainings
