Position Summary
Assisting lead Kindergarten teacher in planning and implementing nationally accredited kindergarten programs to ensure health, safety, and enrichment of children.
Essential Job Functions
1. Planning, implementing and supervising kindergarten education activities in order to enhance children's cognitive, social, emotional and physical growth.
2. Provide developmentally-appropriate education and care, comfort, nurturing and guidance to kindergarten-age children in order to enhance their emotional and physical growth as outlined by NAEYC and State Licensing guidelines.
3. Ensure the cleanliness, orderliness, and safety of the facility in accordance with health and hygiene standards, including but not limited to the toileting area, toys, cots, sheets, and food service/preparation area.
4. Responsible for accurate record keeping, data collection, and anecdotal child reports in order to ensure coordinated departmental interventions.
Additional Responsibilities
In addition to serving as the Kindergarten Assistant during the school day, this position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and leading our school-age enrichment programs outside of regular kindergarten classroom hours. Responsibilities include:
• Planning and facilitating our after-school program throughout the school year.
• Planning and leading approximately 9–10 weeks of Summer Camp, including developing engaging weekly themes and activities.
• Planning and supervising programming during Fall Break, Spring Break, and six (6) non-teacher workdays throughout the school year.
• Organizing educational field trips throughout the Salt Lake Valley that align with weekly themes and learning objectives.
• Creating developmentally appropriate lesson plans, activities, and schedules for school-age children during these extended programs.
• Collaborating with families, community partners, and staff to provide safe, engaging, and enriching experiences for children.

• Organization: Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize efficiently and meet deadlines.
• Judgement and Decision Making: Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgement and problem-solving techniques in the decision-making process.
• Technology/Tools: Ability to use various computer systems and applications including proficiency in online and electronic communication strategies.
• Commitment to Mission: Demonstrates commitment to YWCA Utah's mission and philosophy. Actively engages in YWCA Utah's anti-racism work.
• Compliance: Adhere to YWCA Utah's policies and is committed to act legally and ethically within the scope of the work.
Ideal candidates will have the following:
• Welcoming & inclusive personality
• General knowledge of direct victim services, violence against women and sexual violence issues; gender and race equity, from a feminist perspective.
• Understanding of equity, anti-oppression and trauma-informed philosophies.
Qualifications
• Must be at least 21 years of age to meet our organizational vehicle insurance requirements for transporting children on field trips. This includes providing a valid Utah driver's license, automobile insurance and motor vehicle record.
• If no CDA upon hire, must be willing to obtain CDA.
• Have experience working with kindergarten-age children. Experience with early elementary-age children preferred.
• Ability to relate in a positive and nurturing way with children and adolescents.
• Ability to work scheduled hours on a regular basis, some weekends and evenings required.
• Ability to independently plan and implement engaging activities, field trips, and enrichment programming.
• Meet all State Child Care Licensing Requirements including Food Handler's permit, CPR/First Aid.
• Must be able to pass both Department of Health and Human Services and Children's Licensing background checks, meet E-Verify and I-9 requirements.
Physical/Sensory Demands
Work is generally performed in a safe environment with the understanding that classroom management can be challenging, and that children may exhibit heightened emotions or dysregulated behavior. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to: sit for long periods of time; use computer to enter data; use telephone to converse with residents and employees; walk and stand for long periods of time, especially during children's recreation time; travel to attend conferences, training, outreach and other events occurs routinely.
