KUAA 99.9FM Programming Manager

The Utah Arts Alliance (UAA) seeks a creative and strategic Programming Manager to manage paid and volunteer on-air talent and coordinate related activities of KUAA 99.9FM (kuaafm.org), a non-profit community radio station. The Programming Manager is responsible and accountable for directing the overall on-air programming. The Program Programming will work in collaboration with the station staff, on-air talent, UAA HR. The Program Programming oversees and ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including state and federal laws and FCC regulations.
Job Type: Manager, hourly, non-exempt, non-benefited
Shift and Hours: 20 hrs a week. Works some Friday evenings and weekends associated with events.
Hybrid Work Environment: This job can be a hybrid (in-person/virtual) position as approved by UAA HR. Should plan to work in the studio at least a couple days a week.
Reports to: Station Manager
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage people/HR
Staff Management: Recruit, manage, and direct on-air talent, provide mentorship and training, and work with HR Manager when issues arise.
Oversee training for on-air talent, monitor performance and ensure consistency and confidence in station operations. As needed, schedule group or one-on-one training or mentoring sessions.
Collaborate with on-air talent, staff, and stakeholders to expand listenership and deepen community engagement.
Well-Being: Promote a culture of inclusivity and excellence in regard to KUAA’s volunteer engagement.
Security: Oversees security of the station in coordination with the building manager.
Manage process
Goals: Initiate, pursue, and work with on-air talent to execute short and long-term goals and strategies with an emphasis on underwriting, Radiothon matching grants, outreach, programming, and the involvement of the community to achieve these goals.
Emergency Contact: Serve as the emergency contact for DJs.
SOPs: With Station Manager, create and keep updated the KUAA standard operating policies & procedures and ensure station-wide adherence.
Manage programming
Digital Library: Build, update, and maintain digital music library, ensuring that software updates and downloads are completed regularly.
Station Content: Oversee the conception and selection of the station’s content, and in the process shape the station’s demographic, identity, and core values.
Manage outreach
Listenership: Work with on-air talent, staff and relevant stakeholders to maintain and expand station listenership.
Social Media: Working with UAA Marketing Manager and KUAA team members, maintain, promote, and manage social media accounts for the station as well as handle incoming emails and radio inquiries.
Radiothon: Assists KUAA team members with planning and execution of Radiothons. Plays a leading role.
QUALIFICATIONS
Management experience with an ability to effectively manage personnel and foster a cooperative work environment.
Excellent organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple tasks and roles patiently and professionally.
Ability to communicate effectively with multiple audiences.
Experience managing a large (35-45) team of volunteer DJs.
Experience working with non-profit organizations and/or media and/or entertainment entities
Experience in radio broadcasting/engineering and knowledge of FCC rules and regulations relevant to radio station operations.
Comfortable learning and implementing new technologies/equipment and instructing others on its proper use.
Familiarity with developing and implementing fundraising programs and activities. Knowledge of underwriting regulations and standards is a plus.
Ability to work both independently and as a team with staff and volunteers.
