Hiring Range: $18.00-$23.00/hr DOE

Primary Function of Position
Develop an Unaccompanied Refugee Minor youth council. Facilitate the methods for receiving and implementing feedback from Unaccompanied Refugee Minors. We are looking for applicants who have lived experience as an unaccompanied refugee minor in foster care.
Major Position Responsibilities
- Research best practices for creating youth councils from local state foster care and from other Unaccompanied Refugee Minor programs.
- Create and coordinate messaging to all Unaccompanied Refugee Minors so they understand the youth council initiative and have an opportunity to participate.
- Recruit and develop leadership members and participants.
- Offer direct support to the youth councils by helping youth structure their meetings and guide them in their purpose.
- Offer direct support to the youth councils by helping navigate the logistics including scheduling, meals, payments, etc.
- Act as a liaison with local community partners and help improve outcomes for youth transitioning to adulthood.
- Work with the youth and community to help promote growth in TAL aged youth, help them connect with their communities and navigate their independence.
- Mentor and support youth as they transition out of care and into their independence.
- Serve as a voice and advocate for youth involved in the Refugee Foster Care program.
- Support, direct, and/or evaluate the Refugee Foster Care program.
- Work with youth 14-21 involved in foster care.
- Engage youth in becoming self-reliant, independent, self-advocating, and responsible for their own actions.
- Connect youth to resources and natural supports.
- Support the TAL team in keeping youth informed.
- Reach out to TAL youth.
- Assist youth in understanding their role in case planning.
- Empower youth to share their voice.
- Solicit and help implement feedback from Unaccompanied Refugee Minors through surveys and other methods.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings, monthly Transition to Adult Living team meetings, quarterly group life skills activities, and ongoing transition plan meetings.
Work Environment
- Work will be performed primarily inside but will occur in youths' homes, places of employment, educational institutes, and other locations as needed in addition to being performed in an office.
Physical Demands
- Work requires the ability to sit and stand for long periods, to walk moderate distances, to drive, and occasionally to assist youth with physical activities such as carrying groceries or household supplies.
- Driving is required for this position.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Lived experience in Refugee Foster Care is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated initiative and creative problem-solving.
- Prior experience with public speaking or advocacy.
- Strong writing skills.
- Works independently in a safe, appropriate manner.
- Displays sensitivity to the needs of clients, client's families, visitors, co-workers, volunteers, and other persons with whom the employee may interact.
- Recognizes time as a valuable resource and responds promptly to the needs of clients and co-workers.
- Consistently performs work assignments in a time-efficient manner. Adheres to deadlines.
- Proficiency in English - oral and written communication. Bilingual preferred.
- Must maintain confidentiality regarding client's information.
- Proficiency in computer skills to maintain case files, complete documentation, scheduling and e-mail in Microsoft Office 365.
- Ability to perform functions as itemized in nature and scope of the position.
Education, Training and Experience
- High school diploma or GED.
- Familiar with and supportive of the mission of Catholic Community Services of Utah and the vision of the Catholic Church articulated by the diocesan bishop.
Background Screening requirement
- Must pass a national BCI/FBI background check.
Licenses, certifications and credentials
- Current Utah driver's license, proof of auto insurance with minimum policy liability limits of $50,000 per person and $100,000 per incident, 21 years of age or older, a clean driving record, and ability to meet CCS vehicle safety requirements.
Position status and expected schedule
- This position is full-time and non-exempt.
- The general schedule will consist of 40 hours to be worked between Monday and Friday between the hours of 8:30 AM and 9:00 PM. Rotating weekend on-call schedule 3-4 times a year.
