Maintenance Technician - Painter
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for maintaining, and repairing all coatings and wall surfaces throughout Utah Hogle Zoo’s facilities. Performs journey-level skills or crafts, or building trades such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, drywall, or other recognized trade and maintenance areas. Able to operate, maintain and repair mechanical equipment and vehicles/carts is a plus. This is a skilled position for building maintenance and operation work.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs journey-level skills, building crafts and trades, with full knowledge of building maintenance techniques, methods, practices, standards, procedures, safety precautions, and materials required for the assigned tasks.
- Inspects and services wall surfaces keeping in harmony with USDA on finished products.
- General maintenance skills will be required to help out the rest of the maintenance staff.
- Safely operates and is experienced in hand, and power tools, lifts, forklifts, and all other tools and equipment required to perform maintenance tasks and assignments.
- Operates computer systems and facilities management computer applications for work order assignments including mobile work order systems to receive, generate work order assignments, and record asset changes, equipment specification information.
- Ensures the work area conforms with the security and safety measures in effect and practices good housekeeping.
- Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment and component parts.
- Performs seasonal snow and ice removal with various equipment to provide a safe environment for staff and public
- Responds to emergency situations.
- Must be able to work unconventional working hours including long shifts, on-call shifts, standby for weekends and holidays as assigned.
- Commitment to the zoo’s mission and conservation efforts.
- Ability to work overtime as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Maintains strict confidentiality.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Education and Experience
Four years' experience in a similar position maintaining Zoo’s, or other commercial buildings and systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Mixing paints and epoxies correctly for the proper application
- Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proficient in Facilities Management application for work order assignments, including mobile work order systems to receive, generate work order assignments, and record asset changes, equipment specification information.
Required maintenance skills and knowledge of:
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, circuit diagrams, and various types of operations and maintenance manuals.
- Able to be creative and solve many different animal containment and building issues.
- Demonstrate skills in estimating costs, fabricating, building, controlling, and troubleshooting building systems.
Required mathematical skills include working knowledge of:
- Accounting, budgeting, and bookkeeping.
- Mathematical concepts and logic.
- Performs basic mathematical formulas and calculations.
Must possess excellent communications skills:
- Interpersonal conflict resolution method.
- Effectively promote organization and services offered.
- Interpersonal communication.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Must have the ability to:

Work Environment
Moderately heavy physical activity. Required push, pull, or lift heavy weights up to 75 pounds. Difficult working positions in which you may have to stand, walk, or sit in an uncomfortable position for extended periods and squat or crawl into small spaces under and near operational equipment to check and complete minor repairs. High exposure to disagreeable elements such as dust, fumes, noise, dampness, cold, heat, chemicals, and grease. Exposed to outside weather conditions year-round and moderate hazards.
